Just a thought on Arteta's display yesterday. He really got into the game and helped to run our midfield, but when he plays with Mofro he becomes anonymous. I really don't think that Moyes has got the best out of that partnership.

I think that they cancel each other out as Mofro is the most attacking defensive midfielder we have.

My solution would be (horror of horror) to put Arteta back on the right, with freedom to move inside as much as possible.

He's definitely not got the best out of the pairing, not even close.

Which is frustrating, because imo they're the two best players we have.

I disagree, he's been playing within himself a bit of late, but he's involved more than any other player for us, he makes and completes more passes than anyone else and is the main reason we control games and dictate possession. Interestingly enough, is it no surprise that our results against the better teams have improved since he moved centrally? We used to lose these games, now we are turning losses into draws and wins. For me, that stems back to the change in tactics during the 08-09 season.

Once Arteta gets back to his best, and he will, they'll be fine.

Is it heresy to consider selling Felli and creating a spot for Rodwell and using that money to pay for LD and/or a striker who can...you know...actually score goals?

Any thread that calls for Arteta to play on the right again should be closed and the OP banned.

*sparkles*

But I think its as TxB says, Arteta hasnt really been at his best yet this Season.

It will come tho, hes the best player in the World at the moment. FACT.

I don't think it's as simplistic as that like.

So you want us to sell Fellaini and to buy an overhyped, overpriced Yank?

I was actually going to post something like this...I like mofro, but the part of last years winning streak (where he was absent) and some of this years earlier games has me thinking that the trio of arteta/mofro/cahill hasnt worked all that well together.

The ball needs to go through Arteta and it doesnt when mofro is in the middle. Additionally, he seems to want to take the same space that Cahill thrives in...to me, Cahill isnt the same player when Mofro is in taking some of Cahill's space.

The stretch of games we have without him will tell us alot, I think.

I'd like to see yesterday's lineup played until we know how good they can be (with the exception of peanut on the left when he comes back)

The first thing we think of when we critique Fellaini is his 'crowding out'. As I said on another thread, I think it comes down to players knowing how to take up vacated positions and assuming different tasks when the need arises. It's all too complex for us. That's why I'd advocate simplicity in the way we operate. I take your point about it being a dogs breakfast when there's too many cooks in the kitchen: the Newcastle game when Heitinga, Arteta and Fellaini were given the run around by the might of Nolan and Barton hammers the point home.
