Dear lids and lidettes,

I, your dear friend and probable lover RFUS, and writing to you today in desperate need of mobile phone advice.

Despite being a teenager in the 21st century I know very little about them. I am also tight with money (both a tight arse and skint) so it's probably for the best.

However I've become less able to avoid using my phone of late (I've developed some assemblance of a social life!) and really need a better system than topping up with £10 when I need it. As it is a rip off.

I am with Orange and refuse to buy a new phone or get a contract. I would like one of those pay X per month and get X calls and X texts free kind of pay as you go deals though. Mainly texts. Who calls people like? Thumbs are the new larynxs.

Soooo... I had a look on the Orange website and unless I'm blind I can't see a way to upgrade so I have one of these deals, without a mandatory option to buy a new phone. Pffffffff. [Poor language removed] Orange. So yeah, basically I need advice. I could get my phone unlocked as I do know how to do that much, so any advice about good pay X per month pay as you go deals on whatever providers would be great. Is it even possible to get a deal like this though without buying a new phone? Because unless I sell myself on the street corner I just can't aford that.

Thanks in advance,

Ruffles x

You can get those sim cards from O2 where , I think , you have to put on £10 or £ 15 pound a month. It's not a "termed" contract . But as long as you put the required amount on each month you get X mins and X texts

....a male gigalo.....

Unless you want to pay £30 a month to be on 3 and have an iPhone, I can't help you bro! But make sure you get that camera phone you've always wanted

I use vodafone freebies. It's not loads of texts, but it's enough to do me. Plus internet usage as well.

If your mates have a Blackberry, get one like I have got for my lad. £15 a month, 200 mins 500 texts and internet. He also gets that BBM messenger thing which is like free texts from Blackberry to Blackberry

I already have one like, albeit not a really new one. I just want a new deal. This is the problem -- getting a deal without also getting a new phone.

What exactly is your son on mate? Phone-wise I mean.

get yourself into town with ye 20quid(or however much you have) a month and potter around the mobile shops on church st. Ask first shop what they will give you for your money, then go to next shop and say they'll give me this much for my money can you better it, and so on until you have yourself a monster deal. Sorted.

I'm so excited for you!!1one

Unfortunately, I can't give you any advice about this. My parents still love me* :P

*If you're parents have passed away or something awful like that, I sincerely apologise for that comment.

They're fine and dandy. Just not minted enough to pay for my phone. I am 18 like, and you can only suckle mother's teet for so long. Except chico's mar. I can go all night with her.

My lads got a new Blackberry curve, something.he's on T-Mobile. Whatever you do get off Orange, My daughter has had them before ( I paid btw ) and they were crap when she wanted to upgrade. Told her she HAD to have a new phone, which puts the monthly price up coz you're paying for the phone over the contract. I've just upgraded mine from £8.50 a mth (100 mins 100 txts) to 200 mins and 3000 txts p/mth. It's the same price coz I use the same phone. I'm with Virgin, btw.

Are these all contracts or pay x per month payg deals? Cheers for ze help as well mate.

My lads one is on a 24 mth contract. Though those O2 cards are on a "rolling " contract . You just pay £X per month and you get a certain package for that month. I think one includes unlimited texts. Whether they will work in your current phone, I don't know. But you can get them chipped quite cheaply, now. And you can cancel a rolling contract anytime
