Missing Games

Why the pic of @roydo?

I think this season has been better than last thus far, overall.

The Chelsea game was a big highlight, and the fans celebrating after winning the penalty shoot out vs Norwich the other night was a good one.

Don't think the atmosphere has been that bad. We lost at home to Man City (probable champs) and to Man Utd (bad day all round, think we'd have lost to anyone that day due to the sadness over Kendall).

People are entitled to do what they like and we all have our own threshold for what we can be arsed tolerating. Personally I've seen us so much worse than right now so I'm a little surprised at people pissed off.

I always remember speaking to this old fella who saw Dixie score his 60th as a kid, and saw all the great 1960s sides under Catterick. He stopped going in 1983, right before the glory years, and never went again. Wasn't even tempted back by the successful 85 team.

The point is, some people just reach the end of their attending days.

Why do @Lowste and @ianefc hate each other?

We're all blues here lads. Well now Damo isn't about.
Hate is a very strong word, and I don't think I actually hate anybody.
In @ianefc case I just think he I a typical glory hunting supporter who will distance himself when things are not going well, but will be there when we have a chance of silverware.
I have no issues in anybody not attending games, there are a multitude of reasons for non attendance ( finance, family commitments, health, distance) and I fully appreciate peoples difficulties.
In @ianefc case he had stated:
He can go
And if we got to a final he would go

I personally think this is typical Kopite glory hunting behaviour

So don't gate him, but have no respect for him

Missed the Norwich game midweek - first home game I have missed in 8 years, felt guilty and terrible before it for some reason - then totally not bothered during and after it especially having seen/ heard how poor we were. Been to so many poor half hearted performances in the league cup over the years - list is endless - have decided I will take this competition seriously only when the club do. Which looks like finally this year !

I honestly thought football was part of your culture/way of life up there.

It is. For most of us, if we can't get to a game, our minds will be occupied with what's going on at the ground. Pre-internet, people would be glued to the radio, these days, it's smartphones.

But, like anything that you love, there are times when it's a pain in the backside and you wish you were somewhere else !

*Just to put it out there from the off this isn't an anti Everton/Board/Kenwright/Martinez thread.*

I'm missing the Sunderland game tomorrow, decided to go somewhere with my little lad instead. This is the third match I will miss thus far this season and I'm not even bothered.

Prior to this season I haven't missed a game in years. This year (and most of last year) I have just been ambivalent.

Anyone else done this/feel like this? Or Am I on my own and acting like a pyar bad kopite?
If you really are Stuey Barlow, it wouldn't be the first thing you've missed.

I think this season has been better than last thus far, overall.
The atmosphere around Goodison has been better this season and overall the performances have been more inspiring both home and away.

However, I think we're all clearly aware that both of the above are still short of what we'd like or even expect from Everton.

A win today would propel us to eight (baring Sutton getting points), but a loss keeps us in reach within those towards the depths of the league.

It's too early to tell how the season will eventually pan out, yet I am concerned we may be slowly slipping towards a middle of the table status.

Been going from (at least) 1971 - probably before but no recollection when very young. I missed a lot of games 73-79 being 200 miles away but still made around 10 or 12 home and many aways with ESCLA. Then deliberately chose Liverpool Uni and didn't miss a home game for 3 seasons. Then got a job 200 miles away for 2 years and only made 2-3 games a season. Then moved to the North West in time for 84-85 and made all the midweek games - raced at 90 miles an hour to make it for 2 mins to 3 for the QPR game. Then didn't miss a home game for 7 seasons. Then got another job 200 miles away and for 12-13 seasons only made about 1 or 2 a season (though I have been known to drive 400 miles round trip and not tell the family I was going). Then got a season ticket again in 06-07 and have missed about 10 home games (3-4 due to illness, 4-5 to commitments elsewhere and two for a holiday). In 30 plus years I have only opted to miss 2 home games I realistically could have gone to - Dinamo Bucharest being one of them. Like it says on the tin - WE GO THE GAME.

I think changes in life circumstances and distance are a big part of it for a lot of blues. My family is from down south so it's an eight hour round trip for a game which isn't cheap and the tickets aren't exactly cheap either! My dad had a season ticket until I was born and then couldn't justify the money anymore and sadly I've only been to about 100 matches in my life. Me and my dads match day routine involves watching dodgy streams that break and leave us having no idea what's going on until we get the feed back and see Norwich celebrating. Would love to be able to walk to Goodison in 15 minutes every other weekend though and most definitely would if I could.

every fan has a right to do what they want.

Spot on. Now that I take my eldest lad (9) I have to gauge whether the game will have enough going on to keep his miniscule attention span occupied, otherwise his constant fidgeting / up and down on his seat / trips to the toilet, not only gets on my nerves but also everyone around me . So I don't take him to games like Stoke, West Brom etc, but try to choose games that have goals in them even if it's at the wrong end sometimes !
