At Christmas my missus was given a 'gift' of one if those photo shoot / makeover things from a friend (who probably got it free). She's absolutely not the kind if person to do this kind if thing, and we both snigger at the vanities shown by people who have pictures of themselves plastered all over their house.
So today, for this 'gift' she's had to take half a day's leave to go their with her adult daughter. She'll probably have to pay forty quid in fuel going to the city where its done. For all of this effort and time she gets 1 photo free from the 'gift'. Any of the other 300 or so cost £75 notes EACH. A DVD of the pics costs a grand.
She really doesn't want to go. This is the definition of an obligation gift which is what Christmas has become. Her daughter, up to her eyes in mortgage, will want at least 1 picture, so that's a start of the avelanche.
She's a sucker to the hard sell and I'm terrified. Her friend knows full well that both I and especially her stepfather have decent cameras and are fully capable of doing the same thing for a pittance.
Fuming at this 'friend'.
