minor things that make you fume

A lot of ‘work’ has been done in Rugby to bring about changes to the way the games coached to fall in line with the work Carol Dweck did about 30 years ago. It’s meant that there’s a shift away from competition to playing the game for the sake of playing the game - shouldn’t be applauding outcomes rather the effort etc. Allied to that is a shift away from drills to using games for understanding (as kids find drills ‘boring’ etc.)

The problem is that the whole things gone overboard, kids are leaving the sport left right and centre (often going into sports which emphasise competition- swimming, martial arts/boxing football etc.) and we are getting a generation of kids who don’t actually have the skills to play the game properly. (At an academy pre assessment session the other week we had kids put forward who couldn’t pass or catch by clubs.)

I’ll be looking after a clubs coaching education next year - as such there’s a lot of work on to get things back on track and deprogramme A LOT of nonsense.

There’s been some good little changes, but on the whole it’s put the sport back years in one fell swoop.

That apply to rugby league too, as I can’t see them having any of that nonsense !

Pics or GTF !

After brief spells living in Chester and Liverpool, the nine year-old Daniel settled in Hoylake with mum Olivia, sister Lea and later stepfather Max Blond. Daniel was a keen sportsman, playing rugby for his school and for Hoylake RUFC. His father Tim Craig says he would have taken his rugby career further if he hadn’t gone into acting.

God no! The gulf in ability levels between the league lads and union lads is ridiculous truth be told. A lot of the lads that are in the developing player pathway are league players..

I know my 13 yr old lad had his first session on the Sale DPP a couple of weeks ago and it was full of lads who were 6ft plus aged 13, who play League and had obviously never played Union in their lives.

He`s got 3 more sessions and even though he`s a natural at scrum half, he`s a normal size 13 yr old, I don`t think he`ll get through to the next stages, due to the amount of lads there that are basically men at the age of 13, with the speed and physique to match. He looked tiny in comparison.

He even packed footy in this year to concentrate on his rugby :(

Any tips you can give as to what they are after would br much appreciated !

COYB25, The 6ft lads are early developers. They shine at 13, find it easy, but when the other lads start catching up in late teens, the early developers tend to disappear. I remember at school in Liverpool we had a lad who had muscles on his muscles. No one else was as strong. We were all in awe of him. This was in about 1949/50. I next saw him on the troop ship in the Indian Ocean, returning from Singapore (1957). He hadn't grown much (about 5ft 9 in) and didn't particularly look well built. In contrast I had shot up to 6 ft 3 in and weighed in at 14 stone.

Thanks for that.

@zzr45 has been more than helpful too ;)

Just been to the chemist. Made the mistake of going just as the schools were coming out. Cars parked down both sides of the road, room for only one vehicle. Following a van nothing behind me. A large single decker coach coming the other way. Instead of letting the van and me through he kept coming, completely blocked the road, gridlock. Fortunately, me and the van were able to reverse through a small gap into someones drive to let the coach through. Took a while though, all because the moron driving the coach didn't suss the situation.
