Migrant Crisis

so I take it you are a great supporter of all the people who help out in terms of support, advice, re-housing, misinformation, legal rights..and you would denounce any government that removes the basic support that allows them to do this

Why does your solution always involve government money. If you want to do something just do it. There are loads who help without taking a penny of taxpayers money. If you allow a government to pay for everything don't be upset when they stop. Do you get what I'm saying yet........

And I think pretty well most people in the UK would do this.......

just had a drive past your house, doesnt look too welcoming..

No, I do not underestimate what was done. But it was for the good of Germany and the German population, not some altruistic endeavour for someone else........

They managed the situation and they made it work for them. 'West Germans' saw significant strains on their infrastructure and ended up paying higher taxes to cope. What they didn't do was vilify those wanting a better life. They embraced that fact.

Which bit of 'they were all Germans' did you not get. It was a country split into two by a communist regime that was then reunited. If the Uk was split into two by Russia and then reunited we would do the same, because it is family. But don't try and suggest there was an altruistic element to it.......

but this is where everything you are saying falls down. people who do work that involves the support of those in need rarely do this for financial gain as sadly under our system working for people with no means to pay for these resources is valued less than working for 'entrepeneurs' whose aims are often to provide for nothing but their own profit. So, they are doing it because of their beliefs and empathy. Your argument is simple, rather than training them and guaranteeing them a decent life while doing this, you want people to do it for nothing regardless of their qualifications. How do you think the people being provided for would feel about this? And you keep referring to Government money as though it is being taken from your pocket without you having anything in return. Simple fact is without proper government investment your life is of considerably less value. Let's ignore the things you see as not concerning you and look at the maintenance of roads, investment in small business, the police, maintaining the environment you need. They even shore up private industries that fail so people aren't thrown on the scrapheap although obviously mining is viewed very differently to banking sadly.
'Do you get what I'm saying yet'??? seriously if you view anyone who challenges you as ignorant then you won't develop the world view others have from interaction and self doubt

Oh, one more point I forgot to raise is that Saudi, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain are all replete with oil money; and all could be deemed safe havens - how many are fleeing there, I wonder?

Oh yeah - it's not their problem, is it? Like the Balkans conflict wasn't their problem when their fellow muslims were being wiped out. Like palestine isn't their problem.

So much for muslim brotherhood & charity, eh? Alms for the poor? :dodgy:

Perhaps the photo of that little guy will spur the world into some sort of 'action' for the powers that be to help a bit.

At least I'd hope so. I'm being naive again, aren't I?

no mate, photographs can literally change history

Spot on. It brings the reality of a situation into our lives and sometimes that's the wake up call that the world needs.

No mate, it was probably the most moving picture that most of us will see......
