Wouldn't mind trying a 4-3-3. Seeing as we seem to lack a proper CAM, arguably the most important player in a 4-2-3-1.

Then we could have Besic sitting deep, with Ross and McCarthy either side. That's a fair bit of protection for the defence, but has the added benefit of allowing Ross and James to get forward too.

I'd play Barkley inbetween Besic and McCarthy, he's most effective from a deeper central position for me. Besic and McCarthy would then provide the cover for Baines and Coleman to get forward more, something that is sadly lacking at the moment. Lukaku up the middle with Mirallas left and, regardless of his limitations, McGeady on the right for the width. When Barkley tires, bring on Naismith. We would then go on to win the league.

My thoughts are that Barry legs have gone already, could we not play with one holding mid - McCarthy allowing either 4 mids plus Lukaku up top or 3mids and 2 up top. I don't think we need to have two holders particularly at home to crap like Stoke etc.

Having Naismith back and winning much more than his fair share of headers will ease a bit of pressure, it means the inevitible hoofs that the system is against but relies on from GK have at least some chance of being worked into us retaining possession. Howards kicking aint all that but he's not playing and I haven't studied Robles kicking enough to judge. Lukaku is very much not a pick the ball out of the air and wrestle with the defender type, so going forward the only bit of physical menace is from Nais. That's a bit of a worry because he's picking up cards but it also means when games become a grockfest the only other players happy to dole out some punishment are doing it in defensive midfield (Barry McCarthy) sat in front of the defence and FK's against us there don't really do any of our nerves much good.

As terrible as we have been defensively, we need to be more offensive minded, as our defence isn't leaking goals anymore, we had that flair in the beginningon f the season. Now we lack that flair and have the defensive minded philospsiphy. We need mixture of both. Barkley is a goal threat, McCarthy is a possible play maker along with Barkley, and Besic is a god in making. 4 3 3 attacking formation.

Been saying the same ever since Mirallas and Pienaar started having injury problems, albeit because I think we lack the wingers for a 4231 rather than the CAM.

I think the personnel needs changing. We need a new left midfielder, a new central midfielder as Barry is finished, and at least one centre back as Distin and Alcaraz are on their way out.

I don't quite get the cream fest over Besic? I do think he has the potential to be a good player, but that's all it is at the moment, potential.

He has had a few good games but nothing amasing. If he was put on the market now, he wouldn't be coveted by a shed loads of clubs, and those that would be interested in him would probably be smaller clubs than Everton, and I think his value would be pretty much the same that we bought him for, 4-6 million.

Besic deconstructs the movement of our opponents. Quite a player already and oozes potential for the future. I still like Barry but his positioning has to be perfect to make up for Besic's quickness. If we have fallen to far to compete for Europe next year as I already suspect I would look to the youth movement for the rest of the season for experience.
