2024/25 Michael Keane

Spot on, let him go and sign a young cb as back up.
The point st dom is making is as we all agree our standards need to massively rise so the like of Keane are no good for us no more. On Sunday the lagends parade summed it up for me some outstanding players coming the pitch from the 60s 70s 80s then when it came to the last 20 odd years 2000s onwards the difference in level of players was gobsmackin the drop in standards and talent was massive so the likes of Keane need to go we seen enough of this type of player simply never been good enough to pull on our blue jersey only the best remember

That is true of every player we have been with the club in recent seasons. Keane has probably played less than many but you single him out for blame.
Sounds unfair to me.
I think he will leave, I hope he does.
He will always be a scapegoat for some, even when not even playing.
No wonder he lacks confidence when he plays.
I hope he doesn't lack confidence because of me, because I promise you I didn't say anything when he played v man City the other week when he came on, (only under my breath, I said oh dear Keane is coming on)

But he has been the common denominator in many managers being sacked and us down the bottom of the league.

This Sunday will be the final straw 🙃

If Kinnear is part of Keane getting a contract then it'll be a long dry Summer
I wanted Keane to go, but with doucoure gone. Young and maybe gana, it does give us a lot to do. And it’s not easy to get a 4th choice CB to sign and be happy to be 4th choice, I’ve heard Johnny Evans, Dawson, Ben Mee. Lindeloth. Are they a massive upgrade on Keane. Evans at his best, but he’s passed that. Maybe they all want similar deals, some of them may want 2yr deals. To keep a player who’s been here so long and has played alongside our defenders, and in front of Pickford a load of times. I don’t see as bad thing.

The other option is a youngster with potential, but you could have him
And O’Brien playing week in week out with a few injuries, I’m not a fan of Keane, but I can see it from a continuity point of view

I agree with you, and I said similar earlier, but we're running out of options. Doucoure was one where I thought we might be able to do a deal and him just move down the pecking order but it hasn't happened, Young and the keepers have gone, the stuff this week makes DCL seem unlikely, Coleman's got to the point where even if he stayed on as a player he almost doesn't count anyway. If Gana decides he's got a better offer elsewhere we're in all sorts of trouble to be honest. I'm genuinely not advocating keeping Keane myself, just acknowledging that realistically it may well be a needs must situation.

The issue as well, is that with each player that leaves, it probably strengthens the hands of those players as well.

We don't have a lot of recruitment positions filled, and Moyes-for all his strengths, isn't known to be quick and decisive.

I hope a couple renew now. I don't think we are the sort of club that can bring in like 12-14 players in a window.

Plenty of ropey defenders have done well when getting coached by Moyes. Craig Dawson played some of his best football for him when everybody thought he was shot. Maybe a bit of good coaching could work wonders. He certainly has something to prove, and played well last week.
