2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Do we think Rohl or Dibbling will be more important to our success this season? Personally Im leaning towards Rohl. Not that we cant get on without him, but if he can come in and improve that central midfield it may open up more for us.

Both players appear to have been signed as starters, who need to adapt and develop.

With Dibling, it's going to be about getting him game time and rotating into the ACM & RW positions. He'll get time in December, when games come thick and fast and replacing Ndiaye (AFCON).

I think Moyes will have him back on the bench no matter what, when Ndiaye returns.

Rohl is 23 and is a different kettle of fish. On the one hand he seems to add energy, physicality and power to the midfield. He looks set to be unleashed very soon with a view to replacing Gana (AFCON).

I think Moyes may continue with him in the 11 post Gana's return. On the other hand, the major concern I have are his injuries over several years.

My guess is that by the end of the season;

A: Were all seeing he's the Gana replacement

B: He's good but more injuries or a decent offer put him in the sellable category

C: Moyes has him as a bench option.

Or option D, he looks average but Moyes absolutely loves him because he's a huge midfielder

I’ve seen loads rave over his sub appearances and I must confess - I haven’t seen anything like a good player yet but he’s got time on his side.

Some of his passing against Spurs was as bad as it gets for a midfielder.

I personally think this boy is going to moulded into Fellaini/Soucek role.

Moyes likes players who can win that first and second ball and when we have Beto and Barry, we can use Merlin to link up better between the midfield to strikers.

Yeah, I guess we will see both of them a lot during AFCON. A good opportunity to judge them, but no matter how well Dibling plays he doesnt take the spot away from Ndiaye. I personally just want to see him show he can push for that next season. Not that I see Ndiaye going anywhere, but Grealish likely wont be here so at least 1 spot will be available.

I haven't formed an opinion of him yet as not enough minutes.

One thing about the midfield which is grating me a bit though, why has Gana all of a sudden become a playmaker, he's receiving the ball a lot in important areas and he has neither a good shot or good enough passing to be that guy. I could be wrong, it just seems that way.
