Not too sure what most people see in Depay what makes them think he will be some kind of superstar.

Lets put it this way its well documented he has a bad attitude. We already have very good wingers who are inconsistent. Such as Mirallas, Deulofeu.

Depay has been woeful for Man Utd, he has done nothing for them apart from against a few league 1 ability sides in the europa league. Apart from causing problems in our dressing room what do you expect him to bring?

Another person completely missing the point.

It's the 'type' of player that Koeman wants to fit the system he plays.

Depay has and never will be an out and out winger. He's a wide forward - similar in that way to Gabbiadini, for example.

His best form came in Holland, with PSV playing 4-3-3.

Koeman wants his sides to play with three quick, energetic forwards who can all finish and create chances.

Del and Lennon are out and out wingers. Kev can play the wide forward role but isn't consistent enough.

People need to stop looking at it with such a black and white perspective. It's not just the player, it's the type of player that fits a style of play that Koeman wants.

well im sure there are much more suitable and commited players out there to fill the role and do a better job. I looked on redcafe (Man Utd forum) and the general consensus of Depay is extremely negative with some comparing him to the legendary.... Bebe
I would be very content with Lookman and Gabbiadini. Depay I would be happy to leave and you watch him take a career path similar to Ryan babel. Vault me if you want

Yes, that's what fans tend to do when a player leaves, unless he has been an absolute legend who is beyond criticism.

Is this like how our general consensus is on Romelu Lukaku, because we love our club so we're extra critical of our star players? Or do they actually really hate him?

part of me wants to believe that he will sign and be a big hit and become a world class player. However I find it very difficult to make a case for him being a good fit for us. Every time ive watched him he looks uninterested and rubbish

He has actually been rubbish for United. We're (probably) buying him because Koeman and Walsh reckon they can get him back on track - back on track in this case meaning one of the most sought-after attacking players in the world.

True, not totally comparable to Rom. I'd like to think he would fit in better on our side (which is pretty much 'we'll try anything at this point' style) It's definitely high risk/reward and the money has to fit accordingly

I've said numerous times that I wouldn't be gutted if we missed out on Depay.

But the lad has an abundance of talent. I can guarantee you've watched Gabbiadini and Lookman what, 10 times combined? yet you'd be happier with them?

Used right Depay could be a fantastic signing. At this stage it's unlikely we'd get anybody better.

He may look like some kind of wannabe Michael Jackson when you look at the way how he dresses himself but he isnt the type of guy who causes problems in the dressing room. That it didnt work out at man utd doesnt mean he has lost the talent he's got. Everybody (ex top players/coaches )in Holland is convinced that he has the qualities to suceed at the highest level. Remember Kevin de Bruyne who couldnt make it at Chelsea when mourinho was there. He took a step back to Wolfsburg just to play games got his confidence back and 3 years later he's one of the best midfielders in the premier league. Two years ago it was impossible for Everton to get a talent like Depay. You don't have to believe me but he really could be sensational for us.

Good point re KDB. You just never know do you?

As you know the dutch league can be a very difficult league to properly judge a player. For every Van Nistelrooy or Suarez. You will get an Alfonso Alves or Dietmaar Van Nostrolbooy.

If we did get a De Bruyne type player out of him then that would be amazing but I have to say I just cant see it personally.

No, if you buy players from lower clubs you're wondering if they can adapt at a higher level. When you buy players from abroad you're wondering if they can adapt to the premier league and if you buy players who werent playing at a big club you're wondering if they can have an impact because they didnt play much etc etc etc. People always have certain doubts but Depay would be worth taking the risk.
