Should McCarthy take over as captain?

Can't fault Mccarthy's work rate, but not captain material yet for me.
Jags has had a shaky start to the season but he will come through it and return to form.

Interesting commentary on McCarthy.....

I know I am in the minority here but that quote you put on I think is absolutely spot on. He has everything in his locker to be a top player and I want him to show it and that means demanding the ball, dictating play, driving forward with the ball and so on. Nicking the ball and playing a sideways 10 yard pass is for the likes of Barry to do, Mccarthy has such an engine on him he could do some serious damage when bombing on. He just seems too quiet. Just my opinion and I am sure I will get slated for it as I know loads absolutely love him. I like him....I just want and expect more from him.

I was just reading that article. Really interesting comments from Giles and almost deserves a thread in itself.
It sort of relates to the Captain discussion in terms of the fact that McCarthy seems to be a quiet shy lad which are probably not the qualities you need in a captain. If McCarthy can develop a stronger presence on the pitch and look to impose himself on other teams then I think he will be a fantastic player and captain. Still a way to go though.

I agree with you mate, I think the lad is a quality player, committed as hell, he could be even better though, and I do think he will develop that element

If Jags isn't the captain, the only other reasonable options in our starting 11 are Howard and Barry, and I would take either of them as captain in a heartbeat.

People say they want him to bomb on more and everything, but with us not having our wingers track back and our full backs bombing on, McCarthys job when Coleman bombs forward is to cover him and make sure he drifts over so he's not overran. People say they expect more of him going forward and maybe in parts he could do a little more but his main job is to defend. Him and Barry in Martinez's system are more defenders than Baines and Coleman are.

I think there is a difference between bombing forward, and showing some drive and ambition on the ball when the opportunity is there

When Jags goes he'd be my next captain 100%.

Him or Coleman would be my choices.

Then in the future mine would be Stones.

Don't think it will happen though, like people have said Baines, Howard, maybe even Barry to a certain extent would be ahead in Bobby's book cause of experience and time at the club.
