Think it depends how much his club want for him, then it's down to him.
If he doesn't want to play for us then sack him and move on.

He plays for Caen who have just been relegated from Ligue 1, have a 20,000 seat stadium and probably average facilities. I'm sure we will do more than enough to impress him. Furthermore he's training beside the likes of Pienaar, Jelavic, Baines, Jags, Fellaini. That's more than enough to get someone interested.
People still mooting that he'll cost about 5 mill or so? Think that's a bit steep myself for a player who has a ratio of 1 in 6 in Ligue 1, albeit for a poor team.

He was 16/17 last season though so hardly a bad return for your first ever year of first team football in a good league while you are still technically a child playing with men. It's a risk but he has immense upside.
If we sign a "sure thing" like LD some people will complain that he's too old and no resale value. If we sign a young player than we get the above. Problem is that most of the great players in the middle of those two age ranges? We can't afford them.

We have a good few French lids, plus it seems Distin is always keen to help the French young-uns out.
If Distin's long, muscular arm around your shoulder isn't enough to make you want to stay then I don't know what is.
