This is the reason why we should concentrate on acquiring players in the 24 to 26 range, we need players that are sure to improve the squad for the here and now not waste money on might be's
Most teams target players of that age as they are at their peak mentally/physically so they are often the most expensive.

But even players in that age group are gambles, especially if they are foreign players as you don't know how they will settle in the UK.

I disagree - I think we should concentrate buying players in the 19-22 age range. By then they're fully developed physically and you would also have a good idea of their mentality.

The reality is that players in the 24-26 age range are simply too expensive if we're looking for players capable of taking us into the top 4.

e.g. Shurrle who is 24 went to Wolfsburg (similar to our level) for 22m. We can't afford to pay that for one player.

The top teams like Chelsea very rarely buy or play players younger than that. The reason why Mourinho kept going on about his "babies" last season was because he's never built a team before in that way instead buying in top talent fully developed.

Maybe it's also to do with the fact that Moyes didn't have a clue on how to develop youth players. We have seen more of the young potential at our club featuring in the first team under Martinez than in the whole of Moyes tenure.

Really? Who have we seen? Barkley (Moyes gave him his first games), Stones (Moyes last signing), the odd glimpse of Garbutt (Moyes signing). Erm... Struggling now..

He didn't feature much for Hibs while he was there, which was a bit of a telling sign.

Like with Forshaw I imagine we will have received a nominal fee but a big sell on percentage (possible 25%). If he makes it in the championship and is bought for 4-5 million (the same price as Mcmanaman was recently) it will be worth around 1.5 million for us so not a bad deal.

I didn't see him getting much game time for us. Martinez has been very positive about young players, and has put McCaleny ahead of him in the pecking order. Good luck to him, he'll be a millionaire from playing in the championship and it's a great opportunity for him.

Good luck to the lad, don't think he was good enough to break through here. Probably best for him if he drops to a lower level.

I saw him play 5 or 6 times for the U21's and can honestly say I don't remember a thing about him.
To be fair that probably means he's OK and my memory's bloody awful anyway. Good luck to him, I hope he does well at Cardiff.
