I had no awareness of this rule - probably because in the 30 years of watching football i've never once seen another goal where this was even called into discussion?!

Same here. Played for a long time and was never told by a coach that you could sneak a few yards at a goal kick.

Didn't Suarez score a goal for Uruguay v England at the 2014 World Cup like that? If I remember rightly, Muslera goal-kick, landed right on Stevie G's head who headed it backwards, straight into the path of Suarez who was already between the last English defender and the goalie?

Hilarious moment as it was Gerrard assisting Suarez's goal..........

I was going to bring this up in another thread but Muslera was holding the ball before he kicked it. Are you allowed to do that on a goal kick?

Another tricky situation came up in our league Saturday night. Free kick into the box by Dallas was headed on target by a Minnesota defender, keeper saved it right into the path of an offside player who scored. The goal was disallowed but after VAR it was given.
