Can you actually be off side from a goal kick ?

The two kopites tonight seemed to suggest you couldn’t.

Answers on a postcard please, or just post below.

That’s mad, didn’t know that. So pointless to push up to the halfway line at a goal kick then. Promotes long ball footie

I was surprised by that too! So why wouldn't you always have a player right up on the opposition's penalty box from a goal kick? All it takes then is a decent kick from the keeper, control the ball and shoot! With some fool like Karius in goal, you've always half a chance.

Probably because It's a pretty difficult kick to make for 90 percent of 'keepers.

Well kind of.

But most of the time the ball will land on the head of the CB, if by some chance a player wins the header from your team, your offside, basically its a terrible idea, unless you had a Keeper that could constantly hit the oppo penalty box from a goal kick, I wish people luck with this search.

Would work in FIFA and therefore wouldn't work in a real game.

Basically.

Depends how far behind the defender the striker wants to go. If the striker is say 5yards behind the CB, then the CB can't see his movement AND the ball. I've seen it work well a few times.

I was at a lower league game a few years back, the kind of ground where you are right on top of the touch line. The opposition striker was doing this rather well. But one clown in the ground insisted on yelling "offside" at the assistant each time the GK took the goal kick. Assistant was shaking is head and shouting (away from the crowd) "you can't be offside from a goalkick". This absolute belter in the crowd eventually got the message and was rather quiet for the rest of the game. Amount of people who play, and commentate, who don't know the laws is incredible.

Anyone else remember Gary Crosby heading the ball out of Andy Dibble's hand and scoring?

Football highlights the next day sees the knowledgeable Elton Welsby and Dave Bassett talk about it. Bassett says "he's offside though isn't he?" referring to Crosby. Welsby "I think you are right". Laughable.

Didn't Suarez score a goal for Uruguay v England at the 2014 World Cup like that? If I remember rightly, Muslera goal-kick, landed right on Stevie G's head who headed it backwards, straight into the path of Suarez who was already between the last English defender and the goalie?

Hilarious moment as it was Gerrard assisting Suarez's goal..........

Yeah and it was Jageilka's fault for not being more alert to the danger of his teammate playing in the opposing striker

Pickford could hit their box for sure. Be funny though, sticking a striker on their box just to force their entire team back at every goal kick.
