Erm...

There's lots wrong here.

Gerrard and Simonsen were bought in for actual money. Quite a bit if I remember rightly. They weren't youth keepers like this kid.

We don't 'just buy a keeper to look active in the transfer market'. That's insane.

Yes but they were young and back up keepers. ala all our current goalkeepers behind howard.

As i said conspiracy theory, but why else would we sign young keepers on such a regular basis compared to other clubs and then not develop any of them? Does that not make you wonder?

It's a hard life being a reserve keeper. Not hard in that you actually have to do much, but hard in that you rarely get a chance to play. I mean you can't sub a goalie on the for the last 10 minutes to give him game time can you?

Hopefully this lad will go on and have a pro career of some sort, maybe even ala Ruddy.

I don't really see the point in keep buying young keepers. Unless they are unique talents it would take 10 years until they get near their prime and break in to our first team, long before then they get fed up and drop down a division or 2 for 1st team football and progress their careers.

Bit irrelevant but I don't know why so many people cry over the fact we let him go. He's a bit crap I reckon. Plus he wouldn't even be as good as he is now if he'd been sitting on our bench.

He's not the messiah, but he's made a decent career for himself. Regular in the top flight and capped for England. Can't grumble with that really. Bit like Osman and guys like that. Not spectacular but have had very solid careers.

Oh of course fair play to the fella he's living the life, just think he's not as good as Howard anyway so I don't see why people get so bothered. Unless it's just @Neiler, the bad T-How h8er.

For sure, Ruddy wouldn't get in our team. Tough being a reserve keeper though (providing you want to actually play that is), as you get so few opportunities. We're seeing with Joel how quick people are to give the lad stick, even though guys with much bigger reputations like Lloris and de Gea took a long time to adjust to English football.

In all my years as an evertonian i have only ever seen 2 reserve keepers play for the team and i think that was Paula Gerrard and Steve Simonsen. however they played because we were selling our first choice if i recall so they automatically got played.

Best young lad we had was Ruddy, and he was 4th choice for Moyes. I wonder if martinez only bought Joel because he was cheap and he had him last year? Makes sense to be honest but no measure of his ability.

Plus my conspiracy theory is that we only buy young goalkeepers when we want to look like we are active in the transfer market. We will be fine for 12 months or so, then no activity on the last day brings Billy the Fish in so we are mentioned on sky sports news.

would have been cheaper to keep mucha like

Scouts must see they have potential ??
