....wasn’t into comics when I was a child.
Obviously they make some money on them pal, otherwise DC and Marvel wouldn't be so utterly rutless about cancelling often great titles that aren't selling and continuing often rubbish but still popular series that people buy. I accept the fact that Marvel and DC are kept around by their parent company's to create and test out new idea's along with continued exposure for their characters. Cash wise sure they only make Disney and Warner Bros comparative buttons. But there's no way that either of those company's would just shrug off a division continually losing money and not pull the plug.I"m pretty sure that neither Disney nor WB makes any money on comic book sales. They are just mediums to try out new films. Most people read comics on some sketchy pirate site these days.

Plus if there was no money to be had in the comics industry why do independent company's continue to produce titles? It's not like they can afford to waste money, yet certain idependets are doing very well.
What's happened is that the market has shrunk dramatically and they now rely on a smaller hard-core fanbase buying more titles.
Sure it's fair to say that DC and Marvel are just relatively small tools in a massive corporate machine but it'll be one that's always around as there will always be a market for it even if it has to be on a smaller scale.
If you reckon people don't buy comics in print anymore, go into your local comic shop on a Wed (there's two in Liverpool city centre) and see for yourself how chocker they both are.
As far as online comics replacing the real thing goes, I'll let Stan Lee do the talking for me:
