Martinez vs Rodgers

pretty sure you and i would be the better judge @BrianSwan. martinez wins hands down to me, in every sense of the word - can play many different systems. rodgers before this season had to have a team in place that played football the right way for him to be a success i.e. failed at reading & watford but succeeded at swansea (ironically that system was started by martinez).

he failed getting liverpool to adapt to that system so threw it out of the window, and tbf to him he's been a massive success with this new long ball system.

lets just see if it still works next season though, when more teams would have wised up to it.

Brendan inherited a couple of world class players. It's difficult to know whether their attacking players are that good that they could go out and play without being managed and how much of a hand he had in recruiting them. To his credit though he has innovated a system that plays to the strengths of the players at his disposal.

I find him a bit of an enigma. In 'Being Liverpool' he came across like David Brent with his envelopes containing the name of someone who was going to let the side down and bollocking Sterling just to assert his authority in front of the cameras. I've read stories in the tabloids that come across as him thinking that he's suddenly 'big time' too. But then, if his wiki is to be believed, he speaks Spanish and Italian and he must have something about him to be so highly-rated by Mourinho and to complete Roberto's work with Swansea.

I have a feeling that winning the league (if they do) will go to his head and that they'll suffer crises next season. Maybe Gerrard will need to retire with injury or maybe Suarez will push through a move to Madrid? The likes of Henderson, Allen and Countinho could struggle without the reflected brilliance of their more illustrious teammates and Brendan could end up looking like someone who got binned by Reading and got lucky.

Benitez guided them to the CL, the Super Cup, the FA Cup and league runners up but it didn't save his job. My feeling is that Liverpool will peak this season and that they'll find it very difficult to maintain those standards and sustain success.

On the other hand I think that Roberto will build slowly and progressively and that he'll stay grounded.
