He had the chance to progress that transformation over the summer but went the other way and re-signed all the existing players, including those way past their best.

He signed Barry and Lukaku on permanent deals, both played a huge part in our success last season. That's hardly turning the whole squad into his own.

He's still a young man Martinez, who is to say this season, although disappointing(with many mitigating circumstances)but hardly disastrous in the grand scheme, will not be a part of a learning curve that anyone in any job can go through and come out the other side a better man for the job?Have a little patience as old Barlow(Gary not Ken;))would say.:)

I think this winter has shown that our piss take at the conceit of Kopites amounts to skating on thin ice given the level of entitlement on display on this and other Everton forums. The stamping of feet, because a manager who'd got us a record PL performance last season couldn't replicate or get near that level again, has been horrendous to watch.

It has been Rumpelskiltskin-esque. A bit Grimm in my opinion

Not as horrendous as the garbage we're paying £40 a week to watch!

You keep accepting 2nd best Dave, theres a good lad.

This is Everton. Second best would be very welcome. Unfortunately, we're usually having to put up with 7th or 8th best. Last year we got 5th best and this season we have to accept that we'll probably be 10th or 11th best.

We have to accept it, because the only alternative is to scream that it's not fair and jump up and down.

Dave has a point, its all about who spends the most at the end of the day, if we were taken over by a billionaire we would be challenging for the title, at least untill they pull out, then your screwed big time

Or we can look at where its gone wrong.

Roberto Martinez, nicest man in football, refuses to criticise his players.

He inherited a great bunch of lads from David Moyes, well drilled, well organised and a great team spirit. His arrival was a breath of fresh air, he filled in the gaps in the squad and the players enjoyed his fresh approach, they responded to it and we really gave it a go last season, for me the warning signs appeared in January, he loaned an injured striker who contributed ZERO, Lukaku got injured and we were left with Steven freaking Naismith leading the line, a dark few weeks in the history of Everton Football Club.

So we ended the season with a Europa League place, not a bad finish all in all, but with just a little more football know how we could have easily claimed 4th, nevermind, surely its a learning curve, he wont make the same mistakes again, next season he will get it right. The summer comes and he koffs off over to Brazil, his trip to Brazil was great for him, he got a nice wedge, a nice tan and brought us back the grand sum of ZERO.

The World Cup came and went and we are then left with probably the worst Pre-Season in the history of the modern game, Summer comes and goes and the window closes, Besic is the only shining light from what overall was a decent window, lots of cash money spent and we look to kick on from last season.

But sadly the manager we had last season has gone, we are left with a man who simply doesnt understand the very basics of football, he picks unbalanced sides, we lose games, his reply is to suggest we are missing Leon Osman, I LOLd hard.

The team spirit that Sir David Moyes built up was gone, the players dont feel as tho they need to try, its not like the Manager is gonna say anything, just keep putting in half arsed performances, it doesnt matter, we still get paid, we still get picked and the gaffer just tells us we were boss, this is a like a holiday camp, no wonder half our players are looking for the exit.

So Dave, im not gonna jump up and down, im gonna keep going the game, keep supporting the team in blue, keep believing that everything will be ok, hoping that the forward thinking manager we had last season returns soon and replaces this stale, happy clappy lying sack of utter horse crap we are left with, no tantrums here, but if you think im gonna accept 2nd best or 12th best and let it all slide without a care in the world, well you got me all wrong bruh, thats not me, it might be you, but its defo not me.

You see a turning point and warning signs at January last season, but we won half our total points in those last 18 games. I think it was more of a case that we missed out on a CL place because we had so many early draws as the players were still learning what Martinez wanted from them. Martinez wasn't found out in the second half of the season - he grew into it.

I wont defend what's gone on this season. It has been a shambles, and it was brought about largely by off-field events in the summer: poor pre-season preparations and poor decision making in the window. I dont think a very good manager who is generally seen in the game as astute as a tactician becomes poor overnight though. That's why he continues to get my backing. And he's shown resolve in the last few weeks to pull around a squad who looked like they'd given up.

Martinez is learning all the time now. He's had some harsh lessons but I think he''ll be all the better for it.

Let's see what happens next season, because sure as eggs are eggs, he's going to be here...and quite righty so.

That is pretty much spot on.

you dont know what he says to them in the dresser. this is not liverpool, the team that throws their players under the buss with no hesitation...

.

Lukaku was injured for 4 weeks, in the time he was injured we suffered 2 1-0 defeats in games we should and could have won if we had just had an actual striker leading the line, it was a turning point and it cost us a CL place.
