The simple version is football is about winning games , and we don't win many games.

No defence of that, not after two years of the same results. We can't win games , therefore when you don't win games consistently then you replace the manager. That's what any other team does. The top 2 teams have done it to great success, most of the teams above us have in fact. Only team in the league dropping down over the past 2 years is us. Every other club improving in some way in the top 10

Why the Royle shouts from a few of you?

Hes not been our manager for 20 years...the game has moved on and how would he command fhe respect of the foreign lads who probably know of him but dont know him as a top manager?

I don't think anyone's suggest Joe as a permanent replacement, more as an interim.

As far as I'm concerned, the league is the only measure of a manager. The cup is a sporadic set of games, often against lower league sides, which bear no indication of the true standard of a manager.
Our League Cup route went along the lines of Barnsley (L1), Reading (C), Norwich (PL), Boro (C) and finally dumped out by Citeh (PL).

That's two Premier League opposition out of five opponents, and one of those is currently residing just above the relegation zone.

Our FA Cup run is a slightly more diverse due to the fact that we have faced two minnows from League 2 and then two Premier League teams.

That's five lower league opposition out of our nine opponents. Of course I'm happy about our runs, but when analysed it paints a specific picture.

As you rightly mention, when forced to face opponents of our own calibre across the entirety of the season we've really seen up to the task.

Hence why I've said all along that while winning the FA Cup would be delightful, it wouldn't do enough to show he's up to the task overall.

Royle is back at the club as part of the youth development system Zat - so pretty sure that the players will know him very well

Also as for the senior players not knowing anythign he did as a amnager - that place next to the enpty spot on the stairs at FF waiting for the next trophy pic that Martinez did - well next to that space will be a nice big framed picture of Royle winning the last trophy for this club

As an interim manager till a new one comes in during the summer - he'd be ideal

I trust Martinez to spend money wisely...so if any dramas next season we have improved the squad.

On the defensive side we currently have this:

Gk - Robles
LB -- Baines / Oviedo / Garbutt
LCB -- Mori / Galloway
RCB -- Stones / Jagielka / Browning / Pennington
RB -- Coleman
DM -- Barry
DM -- McCarthy

if it was me i would send all the kids on loan next season.

Id have Stones playing every game at RCB and bringing the ball out of defence and / passing it to the wingers or centrally. He would need to have players able to cover for him hence Koulibaly the 6'3 monster coming in at right back but able to move across (he can also bring the ball out too when needed).

Id be quite happy with Manolas (linked last week) as hes very solid defensively and a real leader. He would be ideal alongside Stones and allow us to keep with Baines/Oviedo for another season as he would "protect them".

Add in a keeper:

GK-- Rico (Ter Stegen/Leno) / Robles
LB -- Baines / Oviedo
LCB -- Manolas / Mori
RCB -- Stones / Jagielka
RB -- Koulibaly / Coleman

We then have Barry and McCarthy basically doing one mans job. We would need to sign a top DM/Pivot/ Busquets-lite.

Then 'on paper' at least i would be very confident defensively for next season. What have we really done here, signed a necessary keeper + 2 defenders and a DM.

Not wholesale changes but additions of pure quality.

This is what i HOPE martinez does in the summer.

If not then i would be concerned really and look for Tuchel to come in or i wouldnt discount Mourinho but it would be high risk for us and his mandate would need to be to create a legacy not just a 3 year plan.

Will people stop mentioning Mourinho. When people name drop him it renders anything they say worthless as its essentially clouded in delusion. We will not get a manager of that calibre.

That's a pretty plausible plan but out of interest what would you do if stones and rom left?

If i was involved in the transfer side of things id already be making advances to Napoli and Roma for the two defenders and also be after one of those three keepers. Those players are of such quality that if Stones did leave we would still be amazing on paper defensively.

If lukaku left we would need to replace his goals and not just with a forward. We would need a LW who can score goals and a direct threat + alongside the new DM id spend big on a centre midfielder with a goal threat. Then of course replace lukaku with another forward....

At the moment we have 2 DMs doing one mans job + lukaku as the only real goal threat....need to change this.

Well if hes open to man united...

1--,Arent people saying we should have beaten them?
2-- Dont we have serious money now?
3-- Where else is he going to?

Lads, can we keep the transfer / team rebuilding stuff in more appropriate threads please ?

This thread should really be used to discuss whether or not a banner is a good thing or not.

Absolutely agree with changing those aspects. I wonder if, should we get a good DM in, Ross could drop back into CM to accommodate a second striker. Especially for home games.

Manolas and Koulibaly would cost upwards of £60 million. Chelsea being linked with Manolas today for £32 million. I know we have a bit of money to player with now, but we are not spending £32 million on a defender, let alone 2.

Sos @Woolly Blue just seen your message!

I am still surprised we haven't seen anything, when did the graffiti appear least season? Feb?

Cleverley, Kone - by far the most used players on the left wing this season mate - who brought both of them into the club specifically it seems to play that position? By the looks of it who also targetd Yarmolenko to play their - a bloke who has played his entire career and excelled on the right wing?

The 3 DM's we have played this season - playing 2 of them every game to do 1 mans job as you said - who bought all 3 of them?

Why on earth do you have any belief that martinez has any ability at creating a cohesive team?

Yup has he bought some very good players - no doubt at all about that - is he getting the best out of any signle player at this club right now or for a long time - don't think you can argue that he is with any real sense of being right
