For those interested there's a film called 'Moneyball'.
All about bridging the gap between big budgets and performance on a small budget.
Of relevance here. Let Martinez do his job. He was the starting force that turned Swansea from a no where club to a premier league club.
Our club is all about youth and picking a deal.
Thats how we compete.
Moneyball is an interesting thing to bring up..
Basically for those that aren't familar with the concept, it was started by a Gm in America called Billy Beane who was in charge of player personal at the Oakland Athletics Mlb team, he based his theory on judging players he wanted to sign on Statistics, he figured it wiser to spend say £1m on a 34 year old than spending mega money on a young player that could cost £10m for arguments sake.
Basically Oakland had no money but using his theory, Oakland went from having the smallest wage bill in Baseball to being in the playoffs, as i said every player was judged on his stats (like opta stats in England) he offloaded the high earners in his team with lesser known players who were much cheaper but statistically had the same or better numbers than the higher earners.
Interestingly Billy Beane turned down the same position at the Boston Red Sox, but Jw Henry hired a young Gm that was familiar with the "Moneyball" theory. Boston while not operating on a lower wage bill than Oakland reduced it's wage bill and went on to win multiple titles. Oakland still continue to reach the playoffs and have a young vibrant team with still the lowest wage bill.
Henry has been quoted as wanting to use this theory for Liverpool, but considering the money they gave Suarez, i think he is full of "S**t". And we also have the disadvantage of having Mr. Bean (Elstone) instead of Billy Beane as a c.e.o so this theory would probably take up to much brain power, poor lad already spends 2 days a week driving around looking at sites for a stadium.
