Just musing as tonight the BBC had an all Ex-Everton panel with Keown and Neville

How was Keown when he played for Everton? Was he as good as when he played as part of Arsenals famed back four

He was a just before my time to be honest. I think I came around the season after he left

It was obvious he was good which of course is why we sold him. Massive shame that. I remember watching him play Southampton for arsenal when le tissier was on that mental purple patch and he totally played him out the game. One of the best centre half performances I've ever seen that.

Saw some lads once with a home made banner with King Keown sprayed on it away at Selhurst Park, met a few others who weren't quite so impressed. I thought he was pretty good myself, Matt Jackson moved over into the centre as I recall and he lacked the physique and punch of Keown. I was a bit surprised when he was sold, George Graham at Arsenal didn't do lightweight in his defence and we didn't look as solid after he'd gone. However as Beardo, Keown and Alan Harper were all at the club we did look a bit prettier.

He was boss. With hindsight, it was the beginning of us having relatively frig all to spend. just 5 years after we broke the British transfer record :(

he was quality.

shame we couldn't have kept him.

Yeah, I was gutted. It was a combo of two things: Us not having great finances, and him wanting the move because he was a boyhood gooner, who'd come through their youth system.

A no nonsense defender who didn't like it if fellow teammates didn't pull their weight (and let them know too). Good player for the blues at the time,I thought.

Looks scarily like an ape
