If he'd made any kind of an effort to get the fan support onside you'd have a point but he seemed to purposely alienate almost from the start. He was very chippy for want of a better word? I rated his work at Bolton very highly, but came to the conclusion he was happy to do the single season and take the big pay off.

Pity because if he could've got the balance of flair and solidity that he managed with the okocha, djorkaeff, campo era Bolton side then he could've been the guy to see the club into the new stadium.

Yes...that's exactly the point I'm making. Another thing I gleaned from the night I met Sam...the other managers in attendance, closest friends of SAF who were Bryan Robson, Wilf McGuiness, ? Smith the ex Blackburn boss, Billy McNeill, etc, to a man had good things to say about Sam. Football supporters are like lemmings, they follow the 'leaders' wherever it might lead and once a build up of hatred for a particular player or manager gets moving, its difficult to change it. Its just happened to the Arsenal captain(ex captain that is).
