Harsh to give that as a Penalty.

Penalty all day long - arm shouldn't have been on the opposition when the ball was in flight, unnatural position, prevented a pass of the ball. It wasn't as blatant as the Jones save, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a penalty.

Don't think the McCarthy one was a booking, though. He did crunch Mata but got the ball first. Fair tackle, play on. Although maybe that's the snide full back in me.

Also wasn't even shown on MOTD2 that mate, was looking out for it as i thought it was a stone wall one tbh

In modern footy both McCarthy and Rooney's where deffo yellows and possibly reds, which illustrates what a joke the modern game is atm really

I thought he should have booked Rooney for a studs high/reckless challenge on McCarthy. Really can't understand that one. He was right there. Also should have gone back to book Mata(?) for a foul on Baines leading up to our goal, and then later on, Mata got away with another late foul. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened had the Smalling handball taken place in our box with the score at 1-0.
Otherwise, he was alright (by his corrupt standards).

I think this weekend must have been the one the Refs Association decided would be "Give a Penalty" Week. Some dubious awards knocking around this round of games.

Think both were crunching tackles that won the ball mate in the end but both could have bizarrely been red the way footy is reffed nowadays

Rooney's was a two footed lunge that should have been a straight red mate. Both feet left the ground and he had no control of the challenge, automatic red.

Clattenburg just winked at him.

In all honesty, I think Clattenburg is aware he's on the way up, looks set to overtake Webb as the FA's no.1 guy, the last thing he needs is a controversial game against us and his past coming back to the forefront. I won't forget the derby and I doubt he'll get another one, but in general, I don't worry about him reffing our games much at all at the moment.
