I like him, I like the football we are playing, however yesterday we were so far forward that when we lost the ball we could have easily been cut to shreds. I know it is high risk/reward play but we need to be more clinical in our finishing to get away with it.

i really like him. we look like we have a clear way he wants us too play. He has improved a lot of players this year. signings are good i say this every year but with him and brands am excited for next season.

I'd image Frank like anyone else sensible will be waiting for the season to end to make his informed decision.Nice run of form at the moment, but as we saw earlier in the season things can change.

Did you just use 'Frank' and 'sensible' in the same sentence?

You did didn't you? lollollol

We're on a great run of form and there's some really encouraging signs from the team and the manager. Finally beginning to land hits on the top six too which is a big sign of an improved mentality.

There was also a middle quarter of the season when the team were in relegation form and could not defend to save their lives.

This season was always going to be one of change and transition. It's important not to be knee-jerk both negatively and positively.

You've all been wrong at different points so stop being hysterical and just give it some time if we're not in danger of being relegated. You can't change something that has been mismanaged for four to five years in one year.

If Silva isn't good enough to make that change then we still wouldn't know for sure from this season alone.

Certainly he is here to stay after the season, some great matches under his belt, he earned another season for sure. He will have to show us if these were fluke wins or not next season.

I doubt they were fluke wins. If Chelsea played the 2nd half like they played the 1st half and we still won then that would have been a fluke win. West Ham and Arsenal were fully deserved with better football than the opponents. That is why we are all on a bit of a buzz because they were deserved wins whereas if they were fluke wins we would still have heavy reservations to where we are heading. Those last few games have shown what this team is capable of when settled and understanding each other so bodes well and gives us that hope that has been missing for a while.

I did add "anyone else".but yes we had a decent run coming up to the Pit, then it all went to hell in a handcart for a while (too long)

So we were mismanaged into the Europa League ?

So we were mismanaged into the Europa League ?

I meant recruitment wise to be fair. I'm not suggesting that we haven't had some good results in that time.

We've had two 11th place, one 7th place and one 8th place finishes in those four years. Not disastrous but no progress was made and we recruited a lot of players, many of whom represented poor value and now we need to get rid of.

After Martinez's first season if you had been told that we'd be in Europe once in the following five years and we'd make a wholly show of ourselves in it due to a lopsided squad, would you have described that as mismanaged?

In all honesty, as daft as it sounds, that Newcastle defeat doesn't particularly concern me. We were absolutely brilliant for about an hour. What let us down that day was Pickford and the linesman. You can't legislate for stuff like that.

The more worrying thing was how things went south after the derby defeat - it was over two months before we got our act together. That's the bit I'm concerned about.

There's plenty of stuff about him that makes me optimistic - I also think the tempo we play at when we are doing well is more likely to get the crowd onside than it ever was under Martinez and Koeman.

We are three points off our total for 17/18 now, with 5 games to go. We also finished last season with a goal difference of -14, whereas we are currently +4.

We appear to have improved this season, even if our position in the league table might not reflect that by the end of the season. Think he's definitely worth a 2nd season, but the form between December and February is something to be aware of and something he will have to ensure isn't repeated.
Agree with all of the above. Pretty much sums up my feelings. That last gasp derby goal seems to have cost us a damn sight more than just the single point.

Looking back, the Newcastle game seems to be the fulcrum on which our season changed. Had we won that game, which we should have done by a large margin, I'm pretty sure we'd have gone into the next difficult run of games with a completely different attitude. However, Watford probably played at the very top of their game and then we had City and Spurs. The annoying thing is that we played so well in the derby, against a team who were flying at the time, and there was absolutely no reason for the lack of confidence that followed. The week before we had put in another excellent display at Chelsea.

So, as you say, the dual worry is that we became so bereft of confidence, and that it then took so long to turn it around. To counter that, when we are playing well you know we're good enough to give anybody in the league a game. And I don't mean just survive against them, but to cause them damage too. In that spell in the Autumn, at times we opened up United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, away from home, in a way we've rarely seen before other than that first season under Martinez. All we have been missing is a top goal scorer. That gives me a lot of hope that the nucleus of this team (especially if we can bring in Gomes and Zouma in the summer) gives us a very sound base on which to build next season. I believe that Silva has done enough to earn himself second year at the helm.
