The "knife to a gunfight" stopped the day Marco Silva walked in the door.

After years of getting "dry bummed" even with 10 men behind the ball , we now have a team that can and will go toe to toe with any team home or away....I'm loving it.

But we cant though pal, Man City or Chelsea away from home is too big a task to expect us to go there and play them off the park 3-1. Did you see what Martial did to Coleman? Do you think Sane, Hazard etc. Wont do the same?

If we go out and sign a top quality Centre Forward and RB in January I would possibly agree with you... however I would be much more impressed with a scrappy 1-2 away win or 1-1 draw than a plucky entertaining 3-1 / 4-2 defeat.

I want Silva to show he's not another plan A only manager like Martinez and can actually tactically outsmart sides who should be beating us on paper.

We can put teams below us to the sword right now... however we are still a bit off the top 4 or so and we need to start being more clinical as we wont get as many chances against Chelsea as we did today.

Great for the manager to finally have the options isn’t it. Keane has been doing great recently and Zouma has been reasonably solid too. Mina has it all to do to squeeze one of them out, and Chelsea will be as good a chance as he’ll get to show his stuff. I love Jagielka for his service, but he’s not even part of the CB conversation any more. We’re getting stronger. ;)

Agreed. If we are to progress to the heights we want to scale, then we have to approach every opponent with the mentality of winning the game.

Players who fail will be replaced in due course. It will take a few seasons but instilling the right mindset is paramount.

The playing staff we have recruited are from elite clubs. The fans need to start to overcome the failure hurdle in time too.

Much as I’ve loved Baines and Jagielka over the years, it’s important that they are no longer anywhere near the team, and we’re seeing the benefits now. And sad to say, but there’s not exactly a clamour to get them back in. You have to appreciate their past contributions, but they were in the past. The ruthlessness Silva is prepared to demonstrate is what we’ve needed for a while. He might not succeed, but fair play, he appears to be here to win.

Yes Jagielka and Baines 10 years ago were two of the finest defenders in Europe, not just this league. We where very unfortunate not to win something in those couple of seasons thanks to the lottery of pens (poor away setup in Fiorentina did us), and a crippling injury list in the FA Final.

They are the past now though. I will not have a bad word said about them but they should not be near this current side.

I think Marcos comments about no longer selling star players was quite telling. He has made it clear to the board that if we want to succeed everyone has to be on board and fully focused.

I hope we are finally on the right track.

We went to The Emirates toe to toe and were very unlucky not to come away with a point .Aubamayangs offside goal costing us.

We went to Old Trafford toe to toe and very unlucky not to come away with 3 points or a point at least.

In the past we've been like lambs to the slaughter going to them places , at least this manager gives us a fighting chance instead of rolling over for a belly rub.

Stafford Bridge ?
Hell yeah....lets take the game to them.
You never know we might even get a ref's decision in our favour and come away with a win.
Fantastic management by Silva , he's bringing in quality players that are strong mentally and instilled a will to win.
Isnt that what we have all been craving for years ?.....I know I have.

That 08/09 side was our finest in a while - I think it was held back by our then manager. We could/should have won that cup final if we’d been a bit bolder, and the same goes for the Fiorentina tie. This manager probably has a slightly better grade of player in each position (maybe barring centre forward) and a more positive mentality. I like the way it’s shaping up

Capt Jags' and Bainesy's reputation has been somewhat tarnished by @davek 's revelations regarding their treacherous roles contributing to Roberto's downfall.

Slowly but surely he's working his magic, him and Brands are going to build some team with Moshiri's backing.

The energy in the midfield and front line, how threatening we look going forward, is something we have not seen in a long long time.

We are a great watch right now.
I really like what is happening at the moment.

I don't think the media have picked up on it, but things are changing.

Nice and quiet the Everton way and we are going to cause a few suprises.
