The point is, you can’t say ‘the team was definitely good enough to win, the only problem was we weren’t good enough to take our chances’ because then by definition the team wasn’t good enough to win. The team we picked away at arsenal also wasn’t good enough to win, but I believe it would have been good enough to beat Southampton at home.

Completely different circumstances though.

The manager you refer to inherited a very decent side which was allowed to fall into decline after a very promising first season, which turned many fans against him.

Silva, on the other hand, has inherited a bunch of mercenaries who had no plan of how to play winning football under the previous 2 regimes.

The rebuilding task for him is enormous so there is zero excuse for calling for his head barring a calamitous run of results. He should be afforded plenty of time to get his methods across and turn things around.
