Player Valuation: £25k
Just wanted to give some respect to one of my favourite players of a dark period of Everton. 4 reds in under 30 games is a pretty intense haul but he was classy and passionate and has remained that way. After 5 league titles, a champions league and a world cup (conceding a penalty, scoring the equaliser and a penalty in the shoot out and of course showing zidane and fifa up for the halfwits they are in the process). I would imagine the most successful Everton player in the modern era. But ever?

To be fair to him I saw him a few times that season and he was a class above the players we had at the time. Still seemed to be a massive blert though.

He was a young kid who joined us at the wrong time, it was a shame really, the potential was there, even then.

God i thought this might have been a rumour. Thank god it's not. All i remember about him he was a typical Italian player, hands in the air and moan moan moan.

I thought he was terriffic for us even then.

Didnt we get duped oon his transfer back to Italy.

Dacourt hurt me more when he left he was sublime.

he said he loved it at Goodison and would have like to have returned if he hadnt joined Inter. I remember seeing him play that season and thinking that he was far too good for us. (That was a grim season.)

He got so many red cards. He was good though, it'd have been nice to have kept him. He's gone on to accomplish a lot - a few scudettos, a world cup (and what a final for him, giving up a penalty, then equalizing, and then getting headbutted to end a generations greatest players career).

Yep. Dacourt was immense. You'd think a side with dacourt and materazzi would have been decent...just the others were so so awful!!

I can think of worse squads we had to be fair:

David Weir,
Terry Phelan

Midfielders:
Scot Gemmill,
Danny Williamson,
Gavin McCann,
Peter Degn,
Nick Barmby,
John Collins,
Don Hutchison,
Tony Grant,
Gareth Farrelly,
Olivier Dacourt,
John Oster,
Joe Parkinson,
Mitch Ward

Forwards:
Mickal Madar,
Danny Cadamarteri,
Phillip Jevons,
Jamie Milligan,

*shivers at phelan, williamson, cleland and gemmil.

But yeah not as bad as I remember it. Collins and dacourt should have been immense.

Hutch and Parky in there as well although the later was coming to the end of his powers. Not to mention England cap Gavin McCann.

Absolutley massive squad even by todays standards.

Anoyone remember Peter Degn we signed him for Danish record transfer fee and only ever kicked a ball for our youth team. We also made Steve Simonson the most expensive keeper in Englash history. Moving swiftly on to Bilic..............so much waste.
