When you consider that we still have Besic, Kenny, Baningime, Walcott, Kean, Lossl, all still on the books but not playing at all and presumably not really wanted by the hierarchy then there’s still an awful lot of work to go to get rid of these players before we even get into then trying to move out players that are in the squad and are being used but probably not good enough long term.

Pickford, Coleman, Davies, Delph, Sigurdsson, Bernard, Tosun.

It will still take a few windows before the squad has more useful players in it than deadwood.
Coleman should not be on that list he still has a couple of good years, maybe not first choice but he is still quality,

Not for me. Holgate is miles ahead of him now defensively. He was a walking penalty against West Ham and just couldn’t stop crosses coming in from his side at all. His use of the ball is appalling, he can’t find his man with passes and he can’t cross a ball. He used to make up for all of that by just having lightning pace but that’s gone now and we’re left with a very average defender. There can be no room for sentimentality. I love him for the player he was for us but he’s not that player now. I’d like to see a new first choice right back signed and Holgate as cover.

Players he has permanently moved out of the club since he arrived:

18/19: Klaasen, Funes Mori, Browning, Connor Grant, Robles, Rooney

19/20: Gueye, Lookman, Vlasic, Onyekeru, McCarthy, Galloway, Jagielka, Ashley Williams, Mirallas, Hewelt

20/21: Schneiderlin, Dowell, Garbutt, Stekelenburg, Sandro, Pennington, Bolasie, Baines, Niasse, Martina, Tarashaj

This is a humongous list of players and shows how much of a job it has been to get a stable squad of players together at Everton. Finally we now have a core of some players that we don’t immediately want to get rid of. Decent teams should just be adding a few in and a few out every season yet we have had to do massive spring cleans every single season since Brands has arrived. There are an awful lot of wages tied up in that list of players above the majority of which were in no way good enough to play for us. It’s only a good thing that they’ve been moved out of the club. Sure he’s made some poor guys (Bernard, Delph) and got very unlucky with injury on some (Gbamin, Gomes) but compare the list of names below to the ones above.

Richarlison, Digne, Mina, Allan Doucoure James Godfrey Nkonkou Branthwaite Kean Gbamin Gomes Bernard Iwobi Olsen

I’d much rather have the names on the list below than the names he’s moved out of the club. He’s not done a perfect job but for the first time in a long time better players are joining the club than the ones leaving. That leads to improvement.
How does that compare to other clubs though? It looks like a lot when you list them but there's no context is there. A very quick glance at Wikipedia suggests City got rid of 22 players this summer alone.

I count 4? that had ever played for their first team.

They had 22 incomings and 22 outgoings.

Everton had 14 players outgoing that had played for the first team.

16 incomings and 16 outgoings.

Looking at that list most of the City players are youth players or their choice keepers that they just swap in and out of the squad, not really many players impacting the first team, most don’t even have a single first team appearance.

Most of the names Brands has moved out listed there have played considerably for us. I suppose it depends where a team is in there rebuilding cycle, Chelsea probably have a lot of turnover at the moment as they’ve brought almost a whole new team. I just don’t understand some suggestions that are raised that Brands doesn’t do anything, the squad hasn’t improved, he’s bought really badly etc.

Some poor players have arrived during his time no doubt, but in my opinion on the whole I think he’s presided over an extremely large amount of very poor players leaving the the club year on year and better players who are contributing far more joining.

As I said, I was just having a very quick look for context. I think the numbers who've played first team games look pretty similar to me. There may be 1 or 2 who played a few minutes for us that I don't recall but looking at it it looks like about 10 players I can remember playing first team for us and about 8 for City. Another quick look suggests 7 for Liverpool this summer. I was just wondering how out of keeping those numbers would be in relation to other teams, it seems the answer might be not very.

Sorry you can't post a list including people like Conor Grant, Shani Tarashaj and Ty Browning and then say you're only talking about players who have a significant impact on the first team.

No improvements, DCL scoring has dropped due to lack of chances, no positivity from the bench, players injured or suspended without a suitable replacement brought in.
That’s my view - without Allen to look forward to coming back (and Doucoure suspension) where do you see us improving?
Brands not really evolving the first team squad,in the past 20 odd days - where there have been very few games and plenty of time to integrate new additions.
However he’s improved his dyke vaulting record
I thought the Lisbon was closed due to the pandemic
