2019/20 Marcel Brands

One of the problems with an activist owner is that it's never entirely clear who's responsible for anything, and there's always a court of appeal for decisions that others dislike.

If Brands were empowered to have the final say, there would be no doubt about transfer responsibility. But if those of us sitting outside the club are speculating, just imagine what it's like inside the club.

Disagree with all of that mate.

Speculation occurs in absence of facts. Inside the club obviously have those facts, we don't.

If it's not clear who is responsible for anything at Everton, then you could say the same about every football club.

The majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, opted for a Director of Football, and the club's CEO said on him being promoted to the board;

“Since then, we have conducted a full review of this model, learning lessons from the last two seasons and identifying a structure that will ensure stability and success. Our approach now is to have a Director of Football with a broader remit, responsible for the whole footballing strategy at the Club, rather than just player recruitment.

This means then, that any transfer under any manager is credited to Marcel Brands. To argue otherwise is disingenuous.

The whole point of Marcel Brands is to ensure continuity as managers come and go.
