After googling what a DoF does I still have no bloody idea.

There is no problem in having a DoF per say as long as they aren't a dictator with regards transfers etc. If the manager and DoF delegate on targets and overall style of play throughout the youth systems that leaves the manager to focus on the first team affairs. It only seems to go wrong if the DoF interferes, a good relationship is key.

Any DOF must know intimately , have the trust of and be able to work with the head coach.

You do not pick two strangers ( however good they are ) to be DOF and coach.

For this to work it should be the DOF picking the coach.

Surely if Overmars signs as DOF it means de boer is a certainty for manager?

I think this is a myth, it could happen but if Overmars comes it doesn't mean De Boer will follow on to the club. For all we know Overmars might not even want to work with him, he may be looking to completely open a new book if he comes here. There's plenty of people I work with I wouldn't want to be taking over with me if I got a new job.

We are still in May and Martinez only lost his job 16 days ago. Any delay that there is, is down to not landing Mourinho and Koeman and moving on from that to new targets.

Wenger said in 2013 he would never work with a DOF, tbf Wenger would make a good dof when he retired as a manager.

He brought in Eriksson, not sure if he brought Ali or Dier.

But, he got sacked and they got rid of the role again. They had Comillio ( I think ) as DOF about ten years ago, sacked him and he ended up at Liverpool who also sacked him.

A dof also must be successful if the manager is also successful.

Manager doesn't know how to use him. Maybe the manager is rubbish so who get the blame ? The dof or the manager?
