Maradona documentary

Wasnt that big a fan of it to be honest.

Loved all the archive footage and what went on during that time in Naples.

But you never really got to know the man himself. His downfall into drink and drugs is only triggered by the fans turning on him but you get the idea that all that was happening years prior and it's glossed over a bit I felt.

Also feel like it makes him out to be a bit of a saint who makes a few bad choices and then knives turn on him. When in fact he carried on doing the same and behaving the same, even worse, years later.

There was too much bending of the stick towards Diego. The refrain throughout was that we should seperate "Diego" from "Maradona"...the latter being a self-created icon to deal with the expectations placed on his shoulders and the demands of the world's media. That's just an excuse to not be a responsible adult. Diego was the greatest player of all time, but he was a man-child.

Overall I felt like the documentary dwelt too much on the non-football issues - especially the years at Napoli. We got virtually no apporeciation of this man's wonderful gift to play football.

Kind of agree with this, you know its a shame not all football was recorded back then, i bet he did so many great plays that dont exist on video

I'd have thought there'd be lots of full games of his. He was the best in the world for over a decade - late seventies to early 90s. I know football coverage went mad after that, but it was hardly an era of poor coverage. Three world cups in that period also.
