Osman seems to be drifting out of form again. Shame, but bench him for a bit to give him a kick up the arse. And dont play him out wide again.

Osman's 2 best seasons were last season playing in the middle and 04-05 playing in the middle. I thought he proved he could do the job there last season but he's still being sent out wide. Its getting beyond annoying now.

If getting beat 2-0 is an acceptable result, then are those supporrters really happy then? The pundits and commentators were saying how well we defended through the game. We let two goals in. Ok, one deflected, one an error. However, tactically we were not set up to recover from going behind. The resulting actions with the substitutes was a formation that we didn't want to play at the start incase we got smashed! We still got beat 2-0. I'd rather have gone down fighting for 90 minutes. That City side were not much better than last season, but we paid them way too much respect apart from the first 20 mins, we ended up with nothing.

It's sad when even the manager of the club you support believes the hype about Manchester City. The way Napoli played against them in the Champions League is the way we should of played yesterday. We did the first bit right by keeping them quiet for the first 45. We put ourselves in a position to have a 'free crack' at them in the second half by becoming more adventurous. Didn't happen only until it was too late.

we started with 2 non defensive minded players. cahill and osman. the rest were defenders or defensive mids. not good enough moyes. drenthe should have started so we might have had a chance of scoring on the counter attack.

I haven't followed this thread, but my own observations after watching MOTD highlights have no doubt already been made:
i) A contentious buildup for Man Citeh's first goal, but very well worked.
ii) Drenthe's error for Citeh's second was unforgiveable when he had a wealth of players to pass to. He did look very remorseful and hopefully will learn from the error, but what a lame attempt at a risky cross in the first place.
iii) Fantastic work by Vellios to round Lescott towards the end and free up the ball for a shot that hadn't looked on (Fellaini?) - but how come Lescott wasn't booked for that pathetic, blatant dive, the t**d?

i knew we were goin to really defensive yesterday but 2 things are eating away at me

1 - that we could have given more to the game other than the "small club" attitude of stopping them play

2 - ok we were set up to get men behind the ball( our 11 men behind the ball after 30+ mins was taking the piss) but on many occasions NOT 1 PLAYER made the decision to actually go at the player in position....at times we had 3 r 4 players literally just surrounding the man but not actually tackling

i can accept a defeat if we were the worse of the 2 sides in the game ( which we were) but it bordered on embarrassing that we look like we just came up from the championship

'Executioner's Bong analysis of City v Everton'...or 'how not to interpret what happened'.

Statistically, Everton did a better job than the corresponding fixture last season...but we got the result on that occasion and failed to do so this time because we operated as an outfit so defensive that our midfield were welded to the back four and complete strangers to the 'front two' for the 90 minutes.

Baffled.

so you banned a fella that went the game today for expressing an opinion, that everton should do more than turn up and hope to ascape with a draw. you are power mad mate thats a fella thats been every game this year and more over the last forty odd than most on here, he is pissed off what do you expect ?

No, he got a 7 day ban for a smart ass pm that most mods probably would have banned him for on a permanent.

We're all pissed off but most of us know how to handle it. He obviously didn't. He can think about it for the next 6 days.

I'm not going to comment on our approach because my expectations were low for this game - pretty much wasn't surprised at tactics or result.

So, onwards and upwards really.

Same comments on MOTM: Distin & Rodwell. For Rodwell especially who finally looks like dedicated time in the senior side may be growing his confidence. And his knowledge as hopefully this role is one he sticks to.

For Distin - he still also has pace. It amazes me when he gallops up the pitch because I can't believe he's 33. He rarely unleashes the pace, but when he does, it's beauteous. Are we sure he's not 27?

Finally, little worried about Jags and Coleman. Again, for Coleman I think it's coming back from injury, but he's had two crummy back to back games. Hope he snaps out of it. His touch just seems rusty, and he's making some wrong decisions - though he still goes forward (with head up!).

Jags looks like he's not confident.

Hope both snap out of it. They are better players than this.

Our lack of offense is worrying for me, lets face it its not just this game we have looked toothless in the final 3rd. Not starting with a striker is just poor tactics in my opinion, 4-5-1 is god damn awful formation and we are just playing poorly at the moment pure and simple. The season has a long way to go lets hope things improve and maybe we may even have an attack in some games that would be really nice.
