Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe has been charged with drink-driving after a car collided with a van in Greater Manchester.

Mr Tunnicliffe, 19, of Clemshaw Close, Heywood, near Rochdale, was arrested after the crash on Saturday afternoon.

Police said a Range Rover collided with a van in Green Lane, Heywood. The van then collided with the wall of a house.

Mr Tunnicliffe was charged with driving with excess alcohol, Greater Manchester Police said.

He is due to appear at Bury Magistrates Court on 25 October.

Officers said the front seat passenger of the Range Rover suffered a minor whiplash injury in the collision and both vehicles were badly damaged.

The midfielder made his Manchester United debut against Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup last month. He was on loan to Peterborough United last season.

Remember I got done for DD, learnt my lesson.

I wasn't however playing footy for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He isn't the first and won't be the last, just be thankful nobody died.

What I never understand about footballers drinking and driving is simply, why don't they just get a taxi?

Even the youth players earn a fantastic wage, how many hours wages would a taxi home and a taxi back to your car the next day really cost?

Selfish c*nts they are. As if they have some divine right to drive their flash cars in whatever state they are in.

Either that or they think they're under the limit, or they're a bit over the limit but won't have accident and get caught.

Same as everybody really.

I suppose yeah, and to be perfectly honest I've been in both of those situations before, not for a few years though mind. And never again.

Personally I think if you're going to drink then you should leave your car at home, even if it's just one or two. It's expensive to get taxis to and from but there's no excuse, especially for a footballer.

****ing [Poor language removed] Fergie will kill him

Contrast his behaviour with Nemanja Vidic who has given £100,000 for a new house to the dad of a former Red Star Belgrade team-mate who died in his Serbian homeland

I know in the past a lot of the players had a pint after a game etc.

But today with all the science and the pressure to be as fit as an athlete you wouldn't drink at all during a season. I was reading about some of the sportsmen/women who went to the Olympics and it wasn't till after their moment of glory did they allow themselves a drink after more than a year of hard work.

They earn all that money in a big team like United - I don't see how hard it would be in return not to drink at all from Sept to May...
