Everton's Europa League hopes could be bolstered by an injury crisis gripping Lyon.

The French side will be without five first-team regulars when they visit Goodison on Thursday night in their Group E showdown.

Former Real Madrid attacker Mariano Diaz - who has netted seven goals in 11 games since arriving from the Bernabeu in the summer - and left-back Ferland Mendy have not travelled with the team to Merseyside after suffering adductor and thigh problems respectively.

Lyon are already missing trio of Pape Cheikh Diop, Clement Grenier and Jeremy Morel.

As a consequence, an under-21 quartet of goalkeeper Dorian Grange, defender Dylan Mboumbouni, midfielder Elisha Owusu and forward Alan Dzabana have all been called up.

I’m ambivalent to his presence at the club now but I just want Everton to win actual games of competitive football. Especially tomorrow, must win if we’re to go anywhere in this competition.
