10/11/17 TWAIN CRUSH DAY
Ex -Plymouth keeper is about to be released from prison after serving half a 7 year sentence for drink driving and being involved in an accident that killed two young lads 8 and 10 years old.

Leaving aside the sick joke that he has only served 3 and a half years for killing two lads and devastating the lives of those who loved them it now looks like he will sign for Swindon when he is released.

So should he be allowed to play?

On one hand he has served his time and has the right to full rehabilitation into society.

But this just doesn't sit right. Isn't football supposed to be providing role models?

Football is very quick to act in some areas - life bans for racism are being sounded out - so why can't we take the moral stand and say that drink drivers are not welcome in the game either.

I don't know McCormick - it might have been a one off incident or he might be another nob who thinks he is above the law because he plays professional sport - and I don't know what if anything he said in his defence in court.

But for me he should be given a life ban from playing in this country. How are the parents going to feel when they see he is picking up his life on a lucrative contract or when he is shown playing on TV?

Thoughts?

Football doesn't have to provide role-models, a footballer is doing a job.

As for McCormack its a tough one, if i was a member of the victim's family i'd be sick right now, but in other ways the lad has gotta get on with his life, he's got to do something

if everyone who ever did anything bad was never given a second chance it would be a sad day. DUI is a horrible offence and causing death whilst DUI is a terrible thing. He is a young lad who made a mistake he has to live with the rest of his life. Let him do it earning a living at his chosen occupation or else you'll be moaning that he's unemployed raking in money off the tax payer for his crimes.

The parent in me says no, as I put myself in the parents' place.

The realist in me says yes as he's served his sentence and, although he was a f*cking idiot to drive after drinking, he didn't set out to end anyone's life.

It's a hard one to be fair, and it was announced this morning that the drink drive limit in Scotland is being lowered even further.

Personally, I think there should be a zero tolerance approach to drink driving. If drinking is so crucial to your enjoyment of a social event, then leave your car at home. It's pretty simple.

Yeah, it's now less than a pint or the equivelant that you're allowed, which is a bloody good move.

Loads of people on my facebook complaining about it so I've taken the liberty of calling them all f*cking idiots.

whilst i think he's a despicable low life who ruined many many lives with his actions i don't think we, or anybody, can stop him doing his job. None of us know him or whether he has shown any remorse for what he did, but he has to live with what happened for the rest of his life.

I think he should be allowed to play again because he has served his time. The jail sentence in the first place is a joke, he killed two kids and only had to serve 3 and a half years.

I agree with pretty much all of the above - i just think that if we are going to give out life bans for calling someone a N****r, which is disgusting but not fatal, then why don't we act on something like this?

Interesting that only just over half of Swindon fans were opposed to the idea

If I were him I wouldn't want to be doing a job where you are in the public eye, I would want to move to the other side of the world and keep my head down.

He'd probably be a great signing for them.

Just think, if it was Messi in the same position and linked with us, how many would be opposed to it?

And this too really.

If you are determined to get some beer in your system then at the absolute maximum drink a pint, preferably a bottle.

Or just get a taxi.

While it was a dick move it could happen to anyone in a moment of madness. Although it's one of the possible consequences of drink driving he didn't mean to kill anyone and driving home probably wasn't pre planned. Still don't understand why anyone would do it, though. This whole 'I had one or two drinks and it got out of hand' excuse is ridiculous. Why bother having any alcohol at all? Just leave it completely.

What a will say is this, i'm proud that when an Everton player does something wrong, we rightly call him a tit. When Jelavic went down against Norwich like he'd been shot, every blue i know was disgusted as was i, we don't defend the indefensible like some other clubs do.
