Lukaku's Everton Frustration

This is all very strange. Why is it happening now?

There are two possibilities as far as I can see.

Either he genuinely does want to compete for CL with us, in which case this is all designed to pressure the board now into spending massively this summer.

Or, he's putting Europe's top clubs on notice that he's leaving in a few months, so scrape that loose change together.

I've got no idea which.
We'll find out soon if he gets a new contract. Right now, in my opinion, it's both.

Spot on with all he said. Talk in the club to him to get him to sign new deal not been backed up so is exactly the way fans have feeling.
If he shakes the owner into showing his ambition he will be doing us a favour.
I will hold my hand up for first time and say the talk has been cheap but I still believe we will move in the right direction but will and have lost players along the way which will slow the progress.

Yes, but I believe the plan was for both Gueye and Witsel, rather than just one of them.
I meant hyperthetically mate. Swap them players out for the ones we didn't sign but we're after and perhaps the team looks like it's showing some ambition for its best players. Instead signing from villa, Fulham, Swansea, West ham, palace show a small time mentality however you paint it up. That is the point here, just showing some ambition as a club to actually want to get better and not accept mediocrity.

Aye I get you, but just thought I'd point that small bit out. Fair point otherwise really, no arguing that.

If a player does this and now it usually means he wants off ski mate

He's said nothing that isn't correct and that hasn't been said by most of us fans anyway.

I would only question whether this was the right time, and I'm also not convinced making it so public will do us any favours over the next 10 games or so.

But he's called the Board's bluff and their response should be interesting. I'd like to think there is a chance we can still keep Rom if they can convince him they are serious about where they want us to be and how much they are willing to spend to get us there.

Oh he wants off I'm fairly certain but what he's said is bang on the money and the board can't exactly argue he's wrong. We're paying for the incompetent shambles we had last summer. Can only imagine what on earth Witsel told Rom about our inept negotiations.

He is spot on but at the same time we don't have the resources to 'do a Man City' and even if we did we are now handicapped by FFP. I am afraid getting to a position where we are competitive with the top 6 regularly will be a longer term project. We need to hope that the stadium goes through to increase revenue and attract next level investment so we can get to a position that we can keep players like Rom in the future. The last thing we want to do is panic and spend beyond our means and end up like Leeds or Pompey. If we get £65m with good recruitment we can come out of this a better team.

Thing is we will sell him and the board will just come out with they're usual tripe. And now fans will actually start to believe the players! I don't believe anything they say with Robert elstone sitting there not a chance.

When you read the actual transcript of the interview it reads really well. He just sounds like a frustrated fan who wants us to do well (and himself). The only thing he is guilty of is possibly naivety, as a certain % of the fanbase will use this to confrim thier bias against him.

If you are on the fence about the whole thing read it again but not chopped around by the Telegraph

Its clearly not all about money, he wants to be remembered as one of the great footballers of his generation, and if he can't find that at Everton he will move. I for one totally agree with him.
