i think the lad who uploaded the video is out of order tbh.

what does it achieve? Get the hysterical masses buzzing for a few minutes then panicking again when he doesnt sign the same day?

Put Martinez in a 5hitty situation and now he will probably be very weary about talking openly amongst supporters incase some lid is recording it to satisfy this 'smack-head' like craving we have these days for information and to be ITK.

^ this.

Completely agree. On the face of it, from a fans point of view, it was great to hear the words from Martinez's lips. However, from a professional point of view it's damaged both Everton's relationship with Chelsea/Lukaku and Martinez's relationship with Chelsea/Martinez.

Why blame the fan though? Martinez is the manager who actually said it - he could have laughed, said "we'll see" etc.

I doubt there's a blue alive who once hearing those words wouldn't shout loud and wide about it.

I think Lukaku is going to get lazy once he signs.

For the last couple of seasons he's gone out on loan to try and impress Chelsea, that's obviously failed (hence JM choices to purchase Costa).

If he moves, he has no one to impress considering we have virtually no other strikers. He's going to start every game.

Disagree completely.

Think its pretty clear Lukaku one day wants to be the best forward in the world. Hes aiming high. Higher than our board will allow thats for damn sure.

He will either want to prove Chelsea and Jose badly wrong...or impress Real Madrid or Barca. The kid wants to go to the very top imo.

For him to get there, hes gonna need to be a monster for us (if we sign him) and to do that hes gonna need to turn into a 25 league goal a season striker.

If he doesnt that then the £20M fee becomes unbelievable business.

Barca and Madrid are looking aroung the £70M mark for proven scorers, the worlds elite. If he wants to be the best of the best then this should be the easiest sanction the board ever make

Unfortunately that and 3 loans are all we can hope for surely? Given that we are not selling a major player.
I don't expect us to buy 6+ players.

I don't think anyone ever expected that.

3-4 permanent players + 2-3 loans is perfectly acceptable so long as the quality is there. We don't have a poor team, we don't need to splash cash everywhere. Just in a few clear areas - 2 strikers, a winger or two, maybe an attacking mid. Could have done with a backup RB, but that ship has likely sailed. And of course CM, which hopefully Besic and Barry handle.

So Besic, Barry, Lukaku, <winger/striker perm> then loan winger/striker and some other coverage, maybe an AM?

We'll be fine if we don't fill that all out before the start of the season. We need a striker before the season starts. If we get Lukaku before the season begins, we'll have the team that finished with 72 pts last year with business still to do. Minus Del, but plus Besic.

No need for panic yet.

I am half understanding of the above but doesn't seem to have held up any other transfers. I think in the published absence of any other reasonable offers for him it must be that we can't agree a finance deal.
You look at most of the players who signed before the World Cup though they were mainly a big offer were the club selling the player didn't have to many problems saying yes, the player would of been offered a nice contract to.

If we had of went and offered Chelsea 30m and Lukaku a 125k per week contract I think we would have had the deal done a month ago but this is Everton, there'll be a lot of negotiating and wheeling and dealing. Not having great finances that's how we have to work, it's help us pick up countless bargains in the past but it's why so often we see a transfer drag on.

I'm getting more worried by the pressure it is putting the club and the lad under - the longer its drags on for the worse it is going to be for him if he doesnt smash ten in ten or something.

I wouldn't blame the lad who uploaded the video, I think Roberto is at fault for saying "Of course we'll sign him" before anything has been agreed (As far as we know)

It's got all the fans hopes up, there's a reason mangers shouldn't comment on other teams players.

Nah hes caught the manager completely off guard there...and the lad asking him is nowhere near the lad whos recording him.

If RM would have known he was being recorded he would never have said it.

I don't blame Martinez at all for making a glib comment to a fan shouting at him from 10 yards away - And seeing that video didn't increase my belief that we'd sign Lukaku - I still don't think we'll sign him

IMO it's the ultimate manifestation of how sad we've become as football fans, desperate to cling onto a tiny branch of oneupmanship - "I broke the story first" horsesh*t" - We're all trawling the internet for names and clues on signings, even the reporters from national newspapers don't know - They just get paid for perpetuating the rumours.

I'm fed up with the whole saga TBH - Whether it be Roberto, Chelsea, Lukaku or Bill's fault, just do something

We need 2 strikers before the first game of the season - Now stop jerking us around and fulfil that very basic premise.
