2019/20 Lucas Digne

Had Walker De Bruyne and Mahrez to deal with and received virtually no support from Iwobi.

....which is why I think Silva started Richarlison and Walcott. Iwobi isn’t conventional, he plays much more in field but he didn’t look like he put a big shift in when he come on.

Mahrez gave Digne a bit of a roasting.

That's peculiar. Maybe it was more to do with the CB there(Mina?) than Digne? He's a class player and Coleman is getting on a bit so you would have thought they would have been going down the left side more.

De Bruyne always drifts to the right to put in those crosses (like for the first goal) mate. He does it for City and Belgium. He's right-footed so even though he's ace on his left he will always do that. Delph really should have been the one getting across to pin the space though that of course opens up a big gap in the middle (which goes back to how much we miss Gana while playing this stupid system).

City utilised their left flank a lot more in the second half because they predominantly attacked on the counter - and the pace was down the left with Sterling.

Tbf I think Iwobi's instructions were to get forward but yes he didn't help enough.

But, unfortunately, I have to again question Silva here. Walcott started on the right. Iwobi could have come on and played on the right. There was no need for him and Richarlison to switch. Stick to the gameplan.

Bernard was probably a big miss in that regard yesterday (not saying he'd have been the difference, like).

@riddick here's City's avg positions for the Watford game. Again, De Bruyne (though not quite to the extent he did against us) is drifting wider to the right (on average).

I don’t think Digne has been as good this season as last, but in mitigation for yesterday’s performance it was reported that he had the same bug, which kept Bernard out of yesterday’s squad, but was passed fit by the clubs doctor.

Maybe Iwobi had the same problem but I didn’t like his halfhearted tackles,he didn’t seem to relish getting stuck in and really press the opposition, I’ll be keeping my eye on him in the future.

Huh, interesting. Just feel like they REALLY went at Digne yesterday for some reason. He didn't help himself in some cases but, ok, that's football.

Yeh they definitely did. But I think that's because Sterling isn't a player that is at his best getting involved 30 yards out. You want him getting on the end of moves.

Mahrez is more creative so they used him and with De Bruyne they had that ability to switch the play with a pinpoint pass.

Digne definitely took a hammering yesterday, no doubt.

I’m glad someone seen the same thing as me. He was caught between De Bruyne inside and Mahrez hugging the touchline with half our team been dragged to the right of the pitch. It probably wouldn’t be apparent on TV but there should have been better communication to help him. These shouts that he’s rubbish are insane.

He's obviously a boss player and probably our best player, but his defending at times this season has been a bit poor, mainly he dives in when he shouldn't and he hasn't got the pace to recover ( and can't rely on mina and Keane to do the covering witg their pace ) think this is why having zouma is vital, he can bail others out with his pace
