There has been at least 3 or 4 in the last ten or fifteen pages alone. Questioning whether he is going to take Baines' place in the team.

Not to mention the twitter blues.

id be surprised if he walks straight in you know, if he had a full pre season with us maybe but id expect baines to start and gradually eased out

this is why Tierney probs would have been the better move as that sort of transition would make more sense

After he put that piece on instagram about leaving. Some of the posts on Twitter were ridiculous. Play him in midfield, play left wing. How about trying him left sided centre back in a 3. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.

We must have the biggest number of sentimental fans on the planet, embarrassing

..i’m not sure that is the case. A manager could set our stall out not to lose, pick up points and get us into the reasonable position you suggest, or a progressive coach might be introducing a change to a more expansive system that will take time to bring in the right players that fit. During change, we could drop points by being more open.

Things sometimes get worst before they get better. I’ll be content as long as we’re comfortable and I can see progress through the implementation of an obvious football strategy. I just want to enjoy watching Everton again.

.... Is the right answer. Obviously I'd be delighted to finish 7th or better, but if we're in the 8th-12thish zone, yet playing good football, with a clear strategy, and the "feel good factor" is back at Goodison, youth is given a chance with a majority of the old dead wood removed (looking at you, Williams), I'd be OK with this. Mostly though, what I want to see is continuity with the leadership at the club - we won't progress with a trigger-happy reaction concerning the manager if results go south.

Struggling to understand people believing Baines is first choice and this bloke with his pedigree and age would be swapping Barca with evertons bench!

maybe people would like a bit of competition for places so that the players dont get comfortable and play half ar5ed, something i think you could level at a fair few of our squad over the past few years

To bring a player of his calibre in, when good left backs are at a premium, is fantastic business.

I don't understand those willing to take a chance on Tierney, yet will write of Digne because he's Barcelona's backup LB.

Agree. At this moment in time this is the less risky of the two imo. Tierney could well turn out to be the better player but Digne's pedigree outways Tierneys potential. Every signing has got to work right now.

Most people want Tierney because he's showing all the signs that he's going to be one of the best left backs in Europe, so signing him will mean we have a World Class left back in a couple of seasons that we can either keep and kick on with or sell for a huge fee

As Digne is older, the chances of him kicking on and making significant improvements now are less likely

Also, we can ease Tierney into the first team over the season and gradually ease Baines out, which will be a smoother process then essentially kicking Baines to the curb as soon as Digne signs

Tierney is just the better option, which isn't to say Digne is bad of course, but the point stands
