Confirmed Signing Lucas Digne

Have to say, once/if Digne is confirmed, the last two pieces of transfer business have been very good - Klaassen's wages off the books and a reasonable transfer fee for him, and getting in a first-choice left-back for a good fee, when the player is at a good age.

Richarlison of course could still be great business, but the transfer fee on his head means relative expectations of the player this season & beyond will go up as well.

This is starting to look like legitimate progress. A couple more pieces of good business should keep us up comfortably this season (we're bad but so is the rest of the bottom half of the Prem) and set us up to become competitive after next summer's transfer window.

Mate, we finished 8th last season and spent only 1 match week in the relegation zone at the start of the season. What you on about staying up? Don't fall into the hype of the RS and some media outlets. Last time Big Sam finished top 8 was in his Bolton days so doubt it was all down to him.

Edit: two more signings of Digne calibre and we'll comfortably finish 7th. Preferably a CB and CM.

Honestly I'd go as far to say if we do make those two signings, they're quality, Walcott and/or Lookman stay and play on the right and everybody including the manager clicks early on then we could jump one or two of the "top 6" if they struggle. Lots of "ifs" but I wouldn't give up on it yet

Agreed assuming Digne and Mina or a similar quality cb comes in it’s a good start

7th should be the absolute minimum standard. Any lower and Silva has failed, any higher and it is a good season

Agreed although barring a disastrous season where we barely survive in 15th or something I think Silva needs to stay on for another year minimum. Actually try to build something. I know Brands will still be in place but I don't want to see the manager carousel that other clubs do

You seen our back 4 right? Also not many La Liga defenders spring to mind renowned for being great Prem ones. Gonna be another struggle early on i reckon.

definitely. I didn't mean he should be sacked for finishing below 7th, but I would see it as a failure for this season. He should absolutely be given a second season to fully embed his plan.
