Are there any BMW X1 drivers in here? I’m looking to change my car in the next couple of months and fancy a BMW but there seem to be very mixed reviews on the X1. Anyone had one fancy giving me some real feedback on it. The model I’m looking at is the X1 2.0 Sdrive 20d M Sport.

I’ve never owned what you might call one of the premium brands of cars before. I’m not really a car person so I go for boring practicality over anything else. My last few cars have been a Skoda Octavia (current car for the last 7 years), Golf, Vectra, Astra.

What are the Pros & Cons of BMW in general and specifically the X1?

Most BMW drivers are aggressive tits behind the wheel, on a par with Golf drivers. You should be ok with a BKW though.

Audi/BMW and weirdly Skoda and Seat drivers are the worst.

And every feckin' 4x4 on the market, although particularly Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover and Discovery.

Opinion of someone who does around 40,000 miles a year. Mostly extra-urban though, so I dunno, maybe Golfs are worse in cities. I never seem to have much bother with them.

Is right.

I just bought a Seat at the weekend lol

I had my corsa, which was my first car, for 7 years prior to that. So hopefully the new car doesn't give me road rage hahaha lol

At the moment I'm a very safe and respectful driver. I'm looking forward to owning the road and not having to indicate any more.

Hi Rob,

I bought a 2 year old X1 x-drive 2.0d and ran it for about 4 years. First 3 years were trouble free, then had a front suspension spring break, and then (at about 75000 miles) both rear brake callipers seize within 3 months necessitating new discs and pads twice (BMW weren't interested in any goodwill contribution despite a full service history with them). On the back of that, I had enough and chopped it in. Used to get 42mpg, comfy enough on the road. Hope that's useful.

I guess any car can have problems and things are going to break. I've learnt the hard way that driving style influences the reliability of a car. I used to drive like a dck and my cars broke a lot. Now I drive like an old man and I've never had any problems with my Octavia apart from a bit of wear and tear. I'm hoping any new car, if well maintained, will give the same kind of reliability. I just need to avoid any cars that have known problems with relaiability. Would you say your X1 was generally reliable?

Deffo, add Audi to that as well, its almost as if as soon as they get behind the wheel an air of teutonic arrogance overwhelms them.

Pleased to be of service ;) I can't bring myself to comment on Everton as it brings on a mixture of rage and despair, -I hope you'll understand.

It was fine for 3 years (mainly motorway mileage). but once it started having issues, I didn't have confidence that they'd end. It felt like the parts were built to last for a set period. Find a good one and hopefully you'll have better luck.
