Dont want to be negative...but did anyone watch the same Hammers game? I wanna bring up some points to kick around.

I'd say 80% of the play was hoof ball, and 50% of the longballs had someone open in space they should/could have passed to instead.

When we put it on the deck we played too narrow. It led us to lose the ball quite often and the Hammers were there to pick it up.

Central midfield. I know this was a change mid game, but why do we look so different to other sides in this area? Fernandes played really within himself. He didnt do one trick. It was all neat and not so neat give and go's. His licence to get forward and sparkle has been revoked, and opinion about him being crap is due to this. I just wanted him to hold onto the ball and get his ass forward. Carsley, whats going on there? He's a great all action dude and a team player if there ever was one, but he is going forward too much. It was like Fernandes and Cars have switched heads. One's got the skill and going nowhere, the other has the heart getting everywhere, but attacking no-one. If there was ever a game that showed us the real high profile signing we need this summer is in centre midfield. A string puller. A puppetmaster.

Jagielka and Lescott. Nail it on. These two hopefully will be the first names on the team sheet for the next few years. Watch Jags and he is always the guy who will get in a mix up. Why? Its because the guy is everywhere. He cannot keep himself out of the play and he will learn when and when not to. He is a legend and we have have only seen glimpses of what he can do. I rate him higher than Yobo, who has had years to mature and has done so nicely. But where as Yob has a laid back approach, Jagielka is the guy you want right next to you in trenches. Lescott is so dangerous. He's built like a wahaj, and has some pretty neat skills.

Anichebe. Feather ruffling time. Now he's been with us from youth and seems to be highly rated in the Vaughn catagory. Ive seen him play a few times. He can be a handful, but why does he only last so long? Its like 70 minutes in and he's given up the chases, looking tired and generally uninterested. Every foul is the greatest injustice in the world. He goes down too easily and I cant see a cutting edge there. I just cant. We should be bringing in the Youngs, the Agbonlahors, the Vaughns and the sears'. Pace up the yin yang. Exitement to boot. I cant see Anichebe lasting out the decade with us. He's just not good enough.

Baines. Quality. His touch, his confidence, we have certainly missed this guy this year and I hope he gets a good run next year. Add a Baines on the right and we will have one of the best defenses in my memory.

Right Back. Did you notice how our play here breaks down alot? There should be at least 5 more crosses per game. It comes form the middle, finds Neville who dodders if he's not rushing onto the byline, or then back to Hibbo/whoever and we lose it. If it does come over its too long or not square enough. More service from the right please.

Osman. I like this guy. He's the guy who who would have constantly been told he wasnt going to make it, and he's proved them wrong everytime. Im not surprised he made it to the senior team with his sheer determination. His work rate is fantastic even for this level and his skill on the ball is second only to Arteta (and fernandes on a good day)

Overall Id give us 3/10 for that performance. It was like watching a game from '02.

Discuss.

I'd like to see Yobo have another crack at Right Back, with Baines on the Left, Jags and Lescott in the Centre.

I know he's tried it before and not been very impressive, but with this team, it might be worth a gamble...?

A good Centre Midfielder, who could play a holding role but also get forward, would make this a great team.

Yobo had a go at right back? How did he play?

True, we have become a promising side and youd take two wins in three against the Hammers, but the obvious plan A Code name 'The Punt' should have been shelved when Cahill came off.

He was [Poor language removed].

Although strangely he captains Nigeria from that position:huh:

Agreed.

But as I said, I'd love to see him have another go at it, with the other backs we have now. Players change over time, and it would be really interesting to see how he went.

I was worried about the West Ham game as soon as I saw Stevie P was out injured. I've been saying for some while how important he is to the team. I'd go as far as to say that if it was a choice of him or Mikel being out of the side I'd prefer it if Mikel was.

I love Osman, he easily has the best touch in the team(well, if you include Pienarr) but I was so frustrated when he took that shot on his weaker foot and the yak had found himself buckets of space just on the edge of the box- I think sometimes he makes the wrong decisions and trys to take too much on(how often during the west ham game did he fall because he knew he couldn't make a ball/was overpowered because he put himself in a poor position?).

I'm not slating the lad, but he is far from perfect. I admire his determination and fight(as you have highlighted).
