Player Valuation: £100m
I think as a club we have done well with lone deals during the Moyes years. When you consider those who have been loans Moyes has certainly unearthed some gems: Yobo, Arteta, Pienaar, Fernades. We have tended to use this system to dip players into our squad and see if they flourish in terms of a potential transfer, it has worked well in a footballing sense.

My point is does it really make sense from a finacial sense. When it comes to loans a fee is involved to secure a players services for the designated times. I assume the better quality of player the bigger the fee: re: Fernandes and Pienaar. Fees of up to 1 mill plus have been quoted in the media.

There are also wages to consider. I imagine Fernandes, Pienaar and Graveson are all on big contracts at their clubs of origan, while i assume we are paying the bulk of these players wages while they are playing for us.

My point is really loans have been fantastic for us in terms of signing players and improving the quality of the team (im all for them). But when you consider we received five million today for Faddy this fee could potentialy be wiped out on the Balance sheet against securing Fernades, Pienaar and Gravesan and paying their wages. It equates in how i presented the argument to the loss of a salable secure assest against securing the services of non sellable assets for a designated period of time. Now im not syaing Faddy was sold because of these loan signing but its retional to think, what goes out must come back in form some source, and it s al profit and loss.

So are loans the way to go in terms finance and making the books balance?

(No one is argueing that they havnt been positive for us in a football sense)(y)

I think young players go out for match experience then the receiving club pay no wages as the owning club benefits from improving their prospect. If the owning club put the player up for loan to get him in the market then 50% of wages are to be paid, and if you apply to a club to loan a player that is not listed for loan then you pay it all. These are not accurate forms of guidance but that is the basic gist.
Just a bit more to help people answer your question.

Unfortunately, he was hurt most of the time he was here but the few times he was on the field, Matteo Ferrari was pure class. You could see the difference in his play.

I'm all for loans when they make sense and can improve the squad and not just to make up numbers.

Don´t forget our mighty Howard! started as a loandeal as well. so yes, he knows what he´s doing.
