liverpool's use of a three-man back line unique in the premier-league

This formation got found out in the early nineties. The only reason it's worked in the past two games is that they played stoke who are turd, and then played chelsea who played with three up front in an awkward formation to accomodate a misfiring 50m striker.

it will have lost the element of surprise already. i can see why the RS use it though, I would if I had johnson in my defence.

I wouldn't mind that. But I did say on here a while ago, when people were mentioning the use of wingbacks, why exactly does no one do it anymore? I'm inclined to agree with Turner.

Agreed, any formation can be successful as long as those used in it are disciplined and efficient.

I'd like to see us try using Coleman and Baines as wing backs, it'd just mean Neville or Fellaini tucking in when they burst forward. Leaving Arteta, Timmy and Louis to help support them in attack.

So is it official now? - Liverpool are the most NEGATIVE team in the Premier League

Good. Make sure everyone knows blues.

That's actually an attacking formation if your full-backs are of a certain type.

With Baines and Coleman, we'd have the two best options in the league for this system to be honest.

In fairness Brum and Stoke are much more negative. 3 in the back works for them because their CBs are so poor that playing 1 is just as good as playing 2.
