Here lies the problem with not playing Patterson in games like Luton and Bournemouth. He's never gonna get game time to improve

Both are undesirable options at Right Back today. I still think Patterson can come good but it really is a tough decision for the manager

Patterson's issue is his defensive positioning, its something that should be easily sorted in training. The fact it's not reflects more on the manager and his coaching staff than the player imo. Clearly they are not capable of improving a players defensive ability or don't want too for whatever reason. Patterson outscores Young on every metric there is pretty much, it's like the Keane thing last season again. Just spend a bit of time working with the lad ffs.
