Transfer Rumour Liam Delap

….of course they are because the skill set has to be superior, but I’m sure plenty of these big bucks players were once purchased for a fraction of their current value.

Villa bought Djohn Duran for <£15m and sold him for £64m a short while after, Mbuemo cost Brentford £5m and is linked with United for £50m. It’s lazy to think you have to spend big bucks on quality.
Villa got lucky on
Duran With Saudi coming in for him, they still probably double their money, but not quadruple. And mbuemo was 20 and Brentford were in the championship, he was obviously bought as young player with potential. He wasn’t being bought to go
Straight into a prem team, hoping to break into the top half

I wouldn't get into a bidding war or a circus over this lad. He is an OK Premier league striker.

….there won’t be a bidding was in terms of transfer fee, clubs will pay the release clause. Delap’s financial demands will also be known, although some might tempt him by offering more.

This will be down to which club the player chooses to move to.

A lot to pay for potential,if we look on the continent we can find the same potential at half the price. And as I said looking at that one game Beto looked a dangerous handful for defenders whereas Delap looked anonymous.

Beto was playing against a team that conceded one of the highest number of goals in the Prem, Delap was playing against a team that conceded amongst the fewest, just for context.

There are some universal truths in football. One being it’s unwise to write off a young player based on a limited data set. It was true in 1950 and it’s still true today.

But I didn’t mention Scottish footballers you loon. I used an iconic example for a universal truth that it’s not wise to judge a young striker solely on their goal output early on in their career because there are multiple examples throughout history of players having low ratio for their first 100 games and great ratios for the next 200. I could also have used Kane or Salah as an example. But you probably say they didn’t play for Ipswich.
Kane is probably the best example going, i will give you a Jamie Vardy & Ollie Watkins too

Without looking to sound like a loon knit picking though, you are using a generational talent as an example of why he 'might' start scoring some more goals.

I would probably use the following
Dominic Calvert Lewin
Dominic Solanke
Tammy Abraham

as examples of players that have had similar records to Delap at 22 and had purple patches at some point in there career and not sustained it

Only Abraham had a similar record at the same age and he did it in a Chelsea team

The hardest position to fill at any club is a striker. That’s why the best ones, command the highest fees and wages. Newcastle struck gold with Isak but it cost them 60m. Alternatively United wasted 100m on Hojlund and Zirkee. Even Arsenal have struggled to identify strikers to improve them. It seems the gap from the championship is widest up front. Bar one season Mitrovic, scored goals for fun in the championship, yet struggled in the PL. There have been numerous examples over the years of forwards who’ve scored for fun in Europe, but couldn’t in the PL. We’ve got to trust Moyes’ judgement, if he sees something in Delap, then that’s good enough for me.
