Sharpys top lip

Player Valuation: £60m
I know last night result wasn't what we were hoping for but lets have a look how we got here.

1) We had a really poor summer, uncertincy right through the club.
2) Wyness leaving an DK falling on it arse.
3) We seem to be plagued with injurys which is not helping.
4) we lost the first two homw games (having to play kids)
5) Transfers only coming in the last week of the window.

The problam has been, we'v not been able to play a settled squad. I think are squad this season is far better than last. But with players only just coming in, an injurys only just coming back. It's hard to get them on the training field to sort out play.

Look at last nigh...

Ossie an Cahill still far from match fit. Castillo on his second game. Big vic playing on the wing. An the likes of Lescott an Yobo just out of form at the moment. But you could see their glimmer of whats to come from us. We also have Pienaar an Saha to come into the squad. An Fellaini who can play again on sunday. Looks really strong to me.

The defence is a shadow of it's former self. But this wont last forever. The lads will get it back again. I think the midfield situation is not helping. Know one seem to know each others jobs. Once thats sorted an player get to know each other better, im sure it will rub of on the defence. Defending is done as a team. Remember some of these players have only been here for a week or so.

Once you have this full team together, an a few weeks training day in day out. I think you'll see the Everton of last season stuffing team again. It does look exciting IMO. It's just unlucky that it's all happend so late for us. I put in a thread a few weeks ago, that we a starting 5 weeks behind every one else. I still belive that. I just hope by the time it clicks that were still in the UEFA an the Carling Cup.

So don't be to down as thing are going to get bettet no doubt about it. An after two weeks training an playing together, i fancy us to do liege over their. The manager has built a fine squad it's all about getting them fit an working together.

Good times are on the horizon, mark my words....:)

Personally, the game last night and against Stoke we played really well, especially agasint Liege. We dominated play, closed them down, and had plenty of chances.

There's just something wrong with the back 4 bit time. Liege had about 3 attacks last night and we let in 2 goals. They're a dangerous side on the break. Not better than Florentina or the majority of the teams around us in the league -- I'm surprised the [Poor language removed] struggled against them.

With Fellini and Saha coming in, I'm not worried to much. We looking like we can score lots of goals. Moyes just needs that back 4 whipped into shape.

DM's contract needs signing too.

This might also be a reason why things hav'nt been as they should.

The uncertincy needs to stop at the top. Moyes needs to sign an then we move forward.

to be honest i think so far this season we havent really woken up from our summer break.i put this down to a few reasons.

i think the loss of aj and carsley has left the squad feeling a bit 'unfamiliar' with each other. they were both big personalities within the team.

also the manager ,chairman and fans have been concentrating on transfers in/kirkby/egm/the managers contract etc so this also may have affected the squad.

injuries have also been bad with cahill vdm pienaar and hibbert all missing.

i think the combination of all the above has contributed to our slow start.

but there wont be anymore players coming or going , the manager can concentrate 100% on the team and not get sidetracked with trivial stuff, injured players are coming back , the new team can start to gel as a unit.

i thought when leige scored there second last night that our team actually seemed to wake up and played a lot better as a team than they have done so far this season.

i actually feel sorry for our next opponents , hull , as i have a sneaky feeling we are going to go up a gear or 2 in the next game.

Does not explain below par performances from players.
Unless there is more going on in the background with Moyes contract than is coming out or they take the uncertainty with them. Can't be easy for them either knowing that the manager that has put this team together might leave at the end of the season

top post sharpy.

I agree, given time we are looking at the nucleus of a good squad that improves on last season. I think we've missed supercars more than we thought, he was the lynchpin of our success under moyes - protecting a back four, stopping opponents movements, breaking up play.

It will take time to train fellaini or castillo to replicate this role for the team and for the new members and existing players to gel. Lescott will recover his form (defensively, attacking wise he's been strong which is part of the problem, someone should tell him he's still a defender, he's started this season thinking he's a striker or winger or something) and that will take the pressure of jags and yobo.

UEFA cup and european football means loads to this club, but personally I dont think it will be a disaster if we fail at standard liege. Our squad is paper thin and concentrating on the other competitions, especially the league would probably pay dividends. Still be a shame as we looked like we could win it last year and european footy is still a fresh thing for the club this century.

often it takes a while for Moyes to find the seasons formula. Last season our formula seemed to be 4-4-1-1. No doubt Moyes will continue to make adjustments until we find the right formation to complement the squads strengths.

then with a full compliment of player we'll be as dangerous as ever.
