Our record against Villa at Villa is terrible. we won 1 game there in the prem league, thats it an it showed. Yesterday we played really well except up front and tbh if we played another 90 mins i don't think we would of scored. In the first half we had nearly 80% of the ball and created 1 decent chance. In the 2nd half we forced 2 saves out of Friedal and we had the ball non stop. Thats not good enought and that was the problem. We did everything else right. Except creat chances. Every free kick was wasted. On the plus side we are domanating games, just need to create more.
Well Andy Gray just couldn't understand it either, and he knows football and usually calls it spot on all the time.
Why we all turned into Ghost today and he's us?
Weird f*cking [Poor language removed] happening today.
Their defence was better than our attack.
That was my understanding of it.
"It's what you do with possession that counts". They had as many, if not more, clear chances than us - despite our overwhelming possession. The highlights are evidence of that. That's where the frustration stems from, especially when you add it to the lack of chances we created against Wolves and Blackburn. We just don't seem to have the self belief in the final third. Our first effort on target against Blackburn was in the 90th minute from a central defender, our first against Villa was the 58th with Saha. Despite reputation, circumstances considered, Villa was the easiest away game we could have had Yesterday - they're clearly at their lowest ebb. Lost arguably their biggest player, lost their manager, on the back of a 6-0 stuffing, on the back of being dumped out of Europe midweek... and we don't test their keeper until the hour mark.
We need to be more forceful.
We need to address that right hand side, desperately. Coleman is half the answer.
We need to demand the midfield take responsibility for starting the attack. On one occasion Yesterday Distin played the ball out of defence to midfield three times. Arteta and Pienaar twice passed it straight back to him who then had no choice other than to lump it long. A joke.
Arteta needed to be more adventurous. He was far too deep throughout. We bemoan the lack of creativity in the final third and have him stood on the half way line. Him and Fellaini were too far apart, as soon as that balance comes we'll come on leaps an bounds.
When defending a corner, particularly when losing late on, every man shouldn't be defending in the area leaving no outlet whatsoever.
When attacking a corner in the 90th+ minute when losing, every one of our players, including the keeper - should be in that penalty area looking to score.
Bilyaletdinov also needs to be managed. The lad has the talent which is why he cost a good few quid. He's no mug, get him involved. He's been here long enough now. Yesterday he should have been on ahead of Heitinga. The lad has proven he can force that ball in the net.
In short, davek called it spot on when he said some of the stabilisers need to come off. Teams are doing to us what we used to be experts in. Frustrating a higher quality opposition and grinding out a result.
*Disclaimer. These are just opinions of a football fan on a football forum. I'm not suggesting I'm more qualified than David Moyes or could do a better job.
Its right mate. I have been saying often recently that we are playing in shackles and Moyes and the team are afraid of success. The fact that we did dominate is a massive positive, and I know yesterday you were not seeing that, but a bit more penetration from certain players and we would have won that game easily.
I'm giving my opinion. You see as the admin of this place you have to be careful because you can easily create a culture whereby people veering from your point of view aren't welcome. There I go, doing it again, quite addictive isn't it?
