Kind of goes without saying doesn't it?

If we got anything like the sort of money United get for their pre seasons, we'd probably start to consider the league second to our pre season tours.

Sometimes football has to be played away from the finance books, when the times comes, its a rare chance to put down your excel spreadsheets and pick up your European match programmes as we kick the s**t out of Europe.
I don't care if we play every other day, if its too much, play the reserves and youth players instead, any excuse to play in European competition.
Its not great financially but winning it is overall worth around 10mil, imagine that just tacked onto the transfer budget, be worth it then when he entered the CL the following season because of winning it wouldn't it?
  • First qualifying round: €120,000
  • Second qualifying round: €130,000
  • Third qualifying round: €140,000
  • Play-off round elimination: €150,000
  • Base fee for group stage: €1,300,000
  • Group match victory: €200,000
  • Group match draw: €100,000
  • Group winners: €400,000
  • Group runners-up: €200,000
  • Round of 32: €200,000
  • Round of 16: €350,000
  • Quarter-finals: €450,000
  • Semi-finals: €1,000,000
  • Losing finalist: €2,500,000
  • Winners: €5,000,000
Not wanting to get into Europe is a strange thing I can't quite understand to be honest.
Problem is we can't make a purchase on the back of potentially winning it we can should we get to the group stages

We're not ready for this run in at the present time, anyone who seriously believes we'll finish on maximum points after last wednesdays spineless display is only kidding themselves. We'll most likely now go into free fall and end the season in 7th position.

Your last comment is something that causes a lot of discussion, for me.

Newcastle when in Europe last season came 5th bottom. The season before they came 5th.

I think hull will go down next season if they qualify for Europe.

Twice when we had the chance to play in Europe under Reid, he turned it down as he said we weren't ready.

Europe, well the Europa league can be the death of a season for some clubs.

To throw another name into the hat though... Everton, who last went to Europe not that long ago...
Finished 2006-2007 in 6th, then the next year - 2007-2008 had a European run and finished 5th, 2008-2009 had a second consecutive European run and finished 5th again.

Didn't exactly cause the meltdown people seem to assume it will for us.

Look at the route Atletico Madrid took over the past few years
Constantly sold their best players due to financial instability- but due to paucity of their league still would at least make Europa League
Won in twice
Developed team under new manager
Now at a position to challenge on all fronts
--
Now Im in no way suggesting we will do the same- but as far as development goes playing in Europa is vital (whether directly from league or elimination from Champs etc etc)- obviously Champs League is the preference, but there is no reason to dismiss Europa

Its crazy but on the back of 7 wins and 1 loss in 8 the Palace defeat has been the most 'hurtful' since we lost to liverpool in the fa cup semi, just can't shake the disappointment, barely come on here, won't listen to talk sport, wont even type 405 into the SKY box, totally deflated me, can't see any way we can beat UTD on Sunday. Just gutted.
This is exactly how I feel. I really hope I'm wrong but I really feel like we've just screwed up our big chance. Against Crystal Palace. At home. Feel so deflated.
